12/26/2009 2:09:00 PM Letter: Why haven't local ministers weighed in on statue debate?
Editor:
You would think the ministers of the Verde Valley would unite against the idol of Mago, for the ministers of this Valley are supposed to be against idols.
The people that go to these churches should realize that if their minister does not actively fight against this idol, then they are for it. There is no in-between.
The people of the Verde Valley should fight to remove this idol out of their midst and if the ruling people of the city do not cause it to be removed, the people should impeach those people and remove them from office.
You are about to have a Mother Earth holding the earth in her hands instead of the belief that our Father created heaven and earth. Who is going to be the ruler of the Verde Valley? The Verde Valley is on the verge of being a valley of idols. A pagan idol Mago is higher than anything around other than the smoke stack at the cement plant, the smoke stack does a job, it is not an idol.
It is time to fight or leave the valley. Do you want your children to bow to Mago and other idols in the future? Others will follow. The ones that back this invasion to the Verde Valley are against the truth, and want to shove this idol down your throat, because of some pagan people believe it is OK to worship idols. Be advised you are either for or you are against the idol Mago. Don't let a few people in the Cottonwood government rule the whole of the Verde Valley.

YA I agree with you about being robbed of the "natural beauty and promoting a specific religious organization."
So if we are going to complain about the statue lets not forget to get that huge eye sore of a Catholic Church out of there too because that damn sure has obstructed my views more than that skinny statue out there... DONT YOU AGREE???????

I am not for nor against the Mago Statue however I am 100% for the US Constitution and those that have gave their lives to defend and uphold it. Sorry folks but you cant pick and choose what others have the rights to express or not. Why is it that Americans have forgot what the responsibilities of being An American are??????

For centuries religion has equalled war. Now we are seeing it right here in the Verde Valley. People want the freedom to worship as they choose, but unfortunately they want you to worship the same way they do. The more things change, the more they remain the same.

Seems to be a lot of
concern over a park.
Where are the conserns
over the death deeds the
congress is laying on us
in the form of a so-call
"health" bill?
Thanks and Good Luck

Lots to say
Dear Sam, I believe that these wise religious leaders are wisely choosing to stay out of the fight - at least publicly. The reason this is wise is because religion is an issue of freedom in this country. In fact the first non-native americans were Protestants - protesting lack of religious freedom. So, I believe they are wise not to challenge other's freedom of religion. However, what they could do in this situation is to have their congregations sign a petition which is addressed to George Gehlert and the Cottonwood Planning and Zoning Commission respectfully asking them to deny or revoke the permit for the statue(s) on the grounds of size and safety issues. They just might listen if enough concerned (tax paying) Cottonwood citizens express their opinions.
