11/28/2009 6:34:00 PM Letter: Kirkpatrick deserves ‘vulnerable’ tag

Editor:
In Saturday’s issue of the Wall Street Journal, Arizona’s 1st District Representative Ann Kirkpatrick is listed as one of the first term Democrat’s most vulnerable in their bid for re-election. As a voter in the first District, I can understand why.
Nov. 5, I was in the 30,000 or so outside the Capitol in Washington, D.C, wanting answers related to the Obama and Pelosi Healthcare bill, that was due for a vote two days later on the infamous Saturday night. After the peaceful rally, which lasted over three hours, ending with 30,000 singing America The Beautiful and God Bless America, we were all encouraged to follow up with a visit to our Congressional representative. I met with Ann Kirkpatrick in her office, (along with my son from Connecticut) and asked about her views on taxpayer funds being used for abortions and healthcare for illegals presently in our Country. Her reply astounded me. After these issues being before her for upwards of three months, her reply was, “I really haven’t given it much thought.” Then she followed up with, “If I’m not re-elected, I can always go back to being a waitress.” Even then, she’s not being honest. A high priced well known lawyer, and she was seeking pity, as she would have to wait on tables.
We followed up that visit with visiting my son’s rep from Connecticut, and with 12 or so in his office, asking questions related to how the Healthcare bill before Congress would really increase costs for small business owners, he says, “Why can’t we discuss the Defense bill?” If that isn’t arrogant, what is? Two young ladies who had their own small business with 6-7 employees, said to the Congressman, “There’s no way we can stay in business with the penalties the Congress is talking about, if we don’t provide more coverage than we already do, it would just put us out of business, meaning laying off all of our employees and closing the business.” At that point, he says, “There are others who would like to meet with me, and I know how I’m going to vote.” At least he was honest and said he had read the bill.

Dear Silence:
Only someone who supports the GOP, a party that has been so thoroughly rebuked for its duplicity in Iraq would dare to say the duly elected representative of a district who won election by a MAJORITY of the voters in her disttict does NOT represent the people of her district.
Maybe you would like to return J.D. Hayworth [of the Abramoff scandal] back.
How utterly duplicitous of you, whoever you are. Isn't anonymity wonderful?

I marvel that the duplicity present in Mr. Bond's response. Had these individuals been protesting global warming or the Hyde Amendment, Mr. Bond would likely be singing their praises for exercising their 1st Amendment rights. Instead, I see a hypocritical diatribe of "riot" and "revolt". As for Ann Kirkpatrick, I am pleased to see she is an ideologue and not a politician. Ms. Kirkpatrick will have her chance to "damn the torpedoes" and go down with her 1st District Representative seat. The politicians, however, are seeing the ever increasing concern that the proposed healthcare plans do not match what the majority of Americans are willing to accept. I don't fault Ms. Kirkpatrick for voting her conscious, but I do fault her for not representing the majority of her district. Yes, it is true she was elected by her district, but democrats have finally poked the conservative bear one too many times.

Dear Viva:
Well said. As regards the "death panels" I had a friend with diabetes who suffered a stroke. Her HMO doctor wanted her to have an angiogram. He contacted her insurance company and was told, "No. It is unjustified at this time. It is too expensive. If she suffers another stroke then we will authorize the angiogram."
My friend was left with impaired speech and partial paralysis oon her right side. And, I am supposed to be worried about government-run healthcare?

Viva' le' Teabag...
Wow...Where to start.
1)Mr. Lidbeck is a Teabagger...who knew. 8^)
2)"Death panels" were a term invented by 'fringe Republicans' to scare people, the only panels you should be concerned with are the private insurance companies that base your healthcare on actuarial tables and cold calculations.
3)Abortions are not the problem, they are the symptom of the real issue, unplanned and unwanted pregnancies. Once people get that figured out then maybe we have a chance of getting someplace.
I hope Mr. Lidbeck is enjoying his Teabagging and making lots of new friends while he's at it. Viva' le' Teabag...

Hi,
Are we talking about the
Ann who would not face
her voters during the
August vacation.
Is this the Ann who
voted yes to killing
our pre-born?
Is this the Ann who voted
yes to the death panels
for the ill and for the
aged?
We voters will vote yes
for Ann to receive a
pink slip...the sooner
the better.
Its easy to bad mouth,
but, we still have a
hard task before us to
bring the economy back
by increasing more jobs
in our private sector.
Thanks and Good Luck.

Dear Paul:
Was this the same "rally" held by Michele Bachmann, R. Minnesota that FOX NEWS falsely reported as 3 million people in attendance?
Was the the same rally where GOP minority leader John Boehner held up a cop of the Constitution and cited the Declaration of Inpendence as the preamble to the constitution?
Was this the same rally where nary a person of color could be seen?
Peaceful? Go to any website and review the tapes of that "rally" and listen to the speeches. There was nothing peaceful about those words. "Inciing to riot" is a crime and many speakers did just that, incited the crowd to go out and "revolt" against the obama administration. Pathetic pandering to the GOP base. And very sad, too.
