11/3/2009 5:08:00 PM Letter: Rep. Kirkpatrick has some explaining to do
Editor:
U.S. Representative Ann Kirkpatrick is writing and working for passage of legislation which affects only one Verde Valley community, and which is OPPOSED by a majority of that community’s public officials, the Sedona Council. At the same time she is on record AGAINST legislation affecting all residents of the Valley, and supported by ALL the local Councils.
Every Valley municipality has joined the Verde River Basin Partnership since it was created by an act of the U.S. Congress four years ago.
Since 2005, the Partnership, without federal funding, has developed a plan for the U.S.G.S. to determine the water resources available in the Verde River Watershed.
Obviously, it is vitally important for all Valley residents and Councils to have accurate knowledge of water resources in order to adopt responsible water policies in future years.
How can Representative Kirkpatrick justify opposition to funding scientific studies that would benefit all of her constituents in the Verde Valley?
Must we always rely on the good will of other members of the AZ congressional delegation, e.g. Rep. Raul Grijalva, to speak up for our interests? I urge all readers of the Verde Independent to contact Representative Kirkpatrick with a request to support funding of the Verde River Basin Partnership. She can be reached by e-mail at kirkpatrick.house.gov, by ph. at (202) 225-2315, or by mail at 1123 Longworth Hse.Office Bldg., Washington, D.C. 20515.

Dear Mr. Kling:
Where does the money for these studies go? Who is the recipient of these monies for "scientific study"?
