Letter: Where is the Republican health care reform proposal?

Editor:

The majority of letters you allow to be printed concerning the health care issue berate the bills that have come from various committees.

The majority of letters you allow to be printed concerning the health care issue denigrate the Democratic views on health care reform.

Where is the Republican health care reform proposal?

The Republican Healthcare Reform Plan is: "NO". They love keeping insurance companies rich -- they are their biggest contributors. Republicans DO NOT WANT HEALTHCARE REFORM. They are the party of GREED.

Mr. Bond I don't know what world you live in, but in the real world "facts" define the truth. I can't help but notice the lack of facts presented in your response.

Dear Disillusioned: You sound like "Joe Friday" of Dragnet fame. "Give me the facts, maam, just the facts." Never mind the truth. The truth just gets in the way of facts. Facts can be twisted and distorted to suit ones needs but the truth is harder to discern. Anyway, I still stay the GOP=Greed Over Principle and nothing I see the GOP doing on healthcare refutes that position.

Obviously... When I originally posted the other comments were not in place. Having read them I will agree that There have a been some token offerings from the GOP. But my main point still stands, they had 8 unfettered years previously and nothing came of it. What was the result of the previous GOP run Govt.? Now the GOP is all about reform? I don't buy it. Why now? Why not then? Maybe because now it's OBVIOUS the MAJORITY of people want and need it. Will you really claim that there have not been obstructionist tactics employed by the GOP?

Life long local....you may want to read the posts from DPG and David Monson and then rethink your previous comment.

Ahh.....It seems like only yesterday that the Democrats were the party of "No!". I guess people's perceptions change based on who is in the majority.

The most recent shrill voiced, handwringing comments about how the Republicans have no healthcare plan is not exactly correct. It is possible to believe there is no plan if all you listen to is the daily liberal news media reports. You might (or might not) be interested to know that Congressman John Shadegg (Ariz) has introduced a health care proposal (HR3218) that allows buying insurance across state lines, setting up private medical co-ops, tax credits for medical care, and more. This may, or may not be health care reform, depending on your agenda. FYI - The Constitution delegates no authority to congress to take over the practice of medicine.

Great question... notice the lack of answers... and the truth told in the ones there are...8^) If the GOP really had any desire to have done anything about anything they had every chance during the previous GOP Presidency/Admin. Nothing then, and nothing now.

President Barack and Democrats in Congress, while pushing their own health care overhauls, have relentlessly criticized Republicans, claiming Republicans have only offered opposition and not ideas for health care reform. This is simply NOT true. The GOP, despite the lack of media attention, has introduced the following three (3) health care bills: (1) May of 2009, Republicans in the House and the Senate have produced produce the “Patients Choice Act of 2009.” (2) June of 2009, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) introduced the “Health Care Freedom Plan”. (3) July of 2009, Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.), introduced the “Empowering Patients First Act”. Interestingly enough, many of the provisions included in these separate bills include: investing in preventive medicine, an overhaul of Medicaid, reduction of abuse and fraud in the Medicare program, supplemental health insurance for low-income families, and tax credits for health insurance. On a final note, I’m sure the liberals have forgotten that President Bush proposed a plan to reform our healthcare system during his State of the Union address in 2007. The plan was to increase the number of Americans with private healthcare coverage by (1) creating a tax deduction for purchased health insurance, (2) directing federal and state funding to ensure the poor and sick could receive treatment, and (3) limit spurious medical malpractice claims. This of course was immediately killed by Democrats and the Trial Lawyers Association. Let’s not be ignorant or willfully blind to what has happened and what is happening.

The GOP is the party of just say "no!". They have no plan. Their only plan is to obstruct passage of real healthcare reform to protect the healthcare insurance companines and their stockholders. Sad but true. The GOP=Greed Over Principle.

Unfortunately, all that seems necessary for Republicans right now, is the ability to say no to any proposal issued by Democrats. The actual processes of formulating policy and negotiating compromise is not in their repertoire.
