BCAC Fall Festival Arts and Crafts Sale

The 16th Annual Beaver Creek Adult Center's Fall Festival Arts and Crafts Sale will be held at the Center, 4250 Zuni Drive, Lake Montezuma on Nov. 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Vendor applications have already been sent out and slots are beginning to fill up. There will be a huge selection of affordable holiday items and gifts from which to choose. Quality, handcrafted specialties range from stained glass creations and jewelry to candles, paintings and textiles.

Trick, Treat & Twirl

AZ We Dance presents a Contra Dance Halloween from noon to midnight at the Cottonwood Civic Center, 805 N. Main St. There will be three bands and three callers.
With frightfully good talent, snacks to keep your bones rattling throughout the night, and costumes to entertain and amuse, this event promises tricks, treats and twirls galore. Pre-register before Oct. 24 for discounted admission ($30), guaranteed entry and a personalized name button.

Open Source Computer Software

The Verde Valley Computer Club hosts RedSeven, a Phoenix-based company, which offers the Linux operating system and a large selection of applications from word processing, multimedia players, graphics editing, games, edu-tainment and more. This is all Open Source Software and is free to the user. Upgrades and updates are also free. This Free presentation begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Clemenceau Building, Willard Street at Mingus Avenue in Cottonwood.

Legion posts warm vets with clothing drive

"Night time temperatures are dipping daily," according to American Legion 135 Cornville Post Commander, Thomas Rounds, "and we can expect that to continue with the onset of winter. For that reason, American Legion Post 25, their Auxiliary unit and members of Post 135 are joining forces to carry on the tradition of collecting warm clothing for our less fortunate veterans," Rounds added.
The drive begins immediately and will run through Nov. 15, just in time for Thanksgiving. All donations dropped off at Post 25, located at 480 Calvary Way, should be marked "VA Holiday Clothing Drive" attention Brian Gehling or Jeri Strande. For items that need to be picked up, please call Gehling at (928) 634-3004 or Strande at 649-3374 after 13 November.
As in past years, donations will be transported to the VA Hospital in Prescott for local veterans. Items being sought include men's and women's (all sizes) jackets, sweaters, long sleeve shirts, trousers, caps, gloves and shoes. Please ensure that all items are clean and in good condition.
Central Arizona Sports Association Shooting Range

The monthly meeting of Central Arizona Sports Association is at 7 p.m. in Yavapai County Board of Supervisor's Meeting Room on Sixth Street in Cottonwood. (Director's meeting at 6:15 p.m.). VVFD hosts Fire & Steel Run

Verde Valley Fire District is hosting the fourth annual Fire & Steel Run to benefit Trauma Intervention Programs of Arizona. Kickstands are up at 10 a.m. from Verde Valley Medical Center. Once the bikes kick off, they will parade down 89A through the roundabouts, through Clarkdale, down through Old Town Cottonwood, and make their first stop at the Public Safety Building on Sixth Street. The remaining dice rolls for the run will take place at Jerome, Cornville, VOC, and Camp Verde Fire Stations.
Bikers are encouraged to let their kids ride along. They will have a great opportunity to visit several Fire Stations along the way. The ride will end at the Moose Lodge at 1051 S. Broadway in Clarkdale, for an afternoon and evening of food, prizes, and a dance featuring the Cadillac Angels.
Cost for the full event is $25 per rider, $20 per passenger. Registration for the run includes dinner, run card, entertainment and a raffle ticket for a Kawasaki motorcycle. For anyone interested in just the dinner, dance and entertainment, registration is $15. The event will hold a 50/50 drawing and have raffle tickets available for some great prizes. Separate raffle tickets for the Kawasaki 900 Vulcan LT Classic bike, are $10 each or 3/$25.

Veterans Day Motorcycle Run

The Verde Valley American Legion Riders are presenting the third annual Veterans Day Run, starting at Post 25, at 480 Calvary Way in Cottonwood. Day-of-event registration is 8-10 a.m., and kickstands up at 10:30 a.m. For early registration make checks payable to Verde Valley ALR and mail to 295 S. Main St., Camp Verde a Ride pin, raffle ticket for drawing, and the afternoon meal with music by the Cadillac Angeles. Breakfast will be available. High hand $100, low hand $50.

Open Poetry Reading at Jerona Java

Museum's Fall Arts & Crafts Sale

The gift-giving holiday season is right around the corner so you may want to check out this weekend's Fall Arts & Crafts & Bake Sale at the Sedona Heritage Museum. Show hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Artists and craftspeople will have a large variety of handmade offerings, including jewelry, quilts, fiber arts, furniture, fine art, ceramics, gourd items, greeting cards, scarves and purses, woodcarving, baskets, hand-sewn clothing and home decor, lotions and potions, all types of gifts and much more. Not all vendors take credit cards, so cash and checks will be appreciated.
This is an old-fashioned arts and crafts show. All items are hand-made. The artist or craftsman sits behind each table to personally tell you how they make their pieces, where they find their unusual materials or what inspires them. Lunch will be available on-site, and homemade goodies will be at the bake sale table.

October Contra Dance

This month's regular contra dance will be at the Cottonwood Civic Center, 805 N. Main Street, Old Town Cottonwood. The caller will be Deb Comly and the live Celtic-style band is Just Desserts. The cost is $6 per dancer. Potluck is at 5:30 p.m., beginner's workshop starts at 6:30 p.m., and the dance is at 7 p.m.
Contra dance is easy, with dance steps similar to square dance. All dances are taught and beginners are always welcome. Contra dancing is moving, active, aerobic exercise, so wear comfortable clothing like T-shirts, shorts, skirts, and tennis or dance shoes.
