Jerome Halloween Dance

The Jerome Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary presents its 36th annual Halloween Dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Spook Hall in Jerome. Music provided by Major Lingo. There will be a costume contest with prizes, a full bar, and dancing. Tickets are $10 at the door. All proceeds go to the Jerome Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.

LMPOA to discuss local flooding

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Lake Montezuma Property Owners Association will be at the Adult Center. The guest speaker will be Bill Kupsch from Claycomb/Rockwell Associates, the engineering group looking into local flooding in Lake Montezuma. He has invited representatives from Yavapai County to also be present to answer questions. Maps and questionnaires are now available at the Beaver Creek Library and the Adult Center. This important meeting starts at 5 p.m.
District 1 candidates speak to GOP

The Mingus Mountain Republican Club will meet at Murphy's Grill, 747 S. Main St., Cottonwood, at 11:30 a.m. The public is invited. The luncheon speakers will be three Republican candidates for Congressional District 1: attorney Bradley Beauchamp, former legislator Rusty Bowers, and dentist Dr. Paul Gosar. Life & Fire Safety Fair

The Montezuma-Rimrock Fire District will hold a Life and Fire Safety Fair at the Rimrock Mercantile parking lot, across the street from the Montezuma-Rimrock Fire house at 3240 Beaver Creek Road. There will be plenty to eat, Jolly Jumpers for the kids and the LAFSS demonstration van will also be on hand. There will be raffles, prizes, and informational brochures on fire prevention and risk analysis.
There will also be smoke detectors available.

Lutheran picnic at Dead Horse

Heavy-metal Halloween

This is a Halloween show put on by Anasazi Music and made possible by the Jerome Historical Society. It features four full hours of metal music and a costume contest (complete with prizes for the best costume). The bands featured are Test (Jerome), Pulsic (Cottonwood) and Dissonant (Chino Valley). It is to be held at the Lawrence Memorial Museum (better known as The Spook Hall) which is in Jerome. It's a "no alcohol" event.
Open Mic at OTCA

Old Town Center for the Arts in Cottonwood hosts Open Mic night starting at 6 p.m. This event will feature acoustic music. Anything goes, so bring your guitar, banjo, ukulele, mandolin, harmonica, or whatever instrument you choose, to accompany your voice, or to play an instrumental song. You can check in with Don Whitcher when you arrive to sign up for your time to play. The event will be informal and all are welcome, to play or just to listen. Toys for Tots tees off

The Toys for Tots Annual Golf Tournament tees off at 8:30 a.m. (7:30 check-in) at Verde Santa Fe Golf Course. Several four-person teams are set to go. The tournament provides toys in categories where not enough are collected in boxes at local businesses. It also pays for storage, and parties for needy children all over the Verde Valley. The cost is $90 before Oct. 9, $95 after that. (Fees, lunch, cart, and goodies.) Bring a $10 toy and get a free raffle ticket. (They tend to need more for ages 7-12). There are cash awards for closest-to-pin and longest drive, as well as for the winning three teams.

CVES Community Showcase
Camp Verde Elementary School is announcing its Community and School Showcase. Classes, clubs, local businesses, government agencies, and extra curricular organizations will create showcases of objects of interest and information. The large glass showcase is located in the lobby just past the elementary school office. Parents and visitors are invited to come and look.

Individuals and families concerned about depression may want to take advantage of an on-line depression screening offered through the Verde Valley Guidance Clinic and Empowerment Systems. The screening is available in both English and Spanish and is completely confidential.
