COTTONWOOD - It's a reversion to the 1940s and '50s. Fresh food. Simple menu. Natural flavors.

Judd Wasden recently opened Bing's Burger Station at 794 N. Main St. in Old Town Cottonwood. Although the décor will remind one of the 1940s and '50s era, Wasden's goal was to recapture the atmosphere and food of the period when his grandparents had a Standard Station. "Back in the 1940s this was a gas station," he said.

"It's less of the time period," Wasden said. "I loved the gas station.

"I'm trying to do a throwback to that period when everything was cooked fresh," he said.

To that end, Wasden keeps the menu simple, offering foods he can prepare and serve fresh each day.

He offers burgers with Angus meat, grilled chicken, fresh fries, salads, veggie burgers, shakes, malts and old-fashioned sodas. "That's my main offering," he said.

"Our burgers are not preformed," Wasden said. "It's fresh meat. Our fries are cut fresh every day."

He makes the milk shakes and malts the old-fashioned way with hard ice cream mixed in real milk-shake mixers. "I also do old-fashioned sodas," he said. He uses natural flavors in peach, lime and mulberry.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Hours on Friday and Saturday are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Burger Station is closed on Sunday and Monday, although Wasden said he plans to open on Mondays at some point. "I also eventually want to get back to being open on week nights," he said.

The burger and fries were delicious. I love the retro feel and enjoyed eating in beautiful Arizona fall weather on the patio.

My wife and I stopped in just after they opened. My hamburger was outstanding - - it took me back to, at least, the 50's. Give it a try.
