COTTONWOOD - Yavapai County Sheriff's deputies were involved in a car chase from Cottonwood across the river onto Rocking Chair RoadWednesday. A man wanted on a warrant nearly hit several cars and a horse.
Jesus Martinez-Tapia, 25, was driving a tan Ford Taurus on Main driving on a suspended license when the officers spotted him on Main Street, according to spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn. He accelerated away and drove through adjacent streets at high speeds, forcing other motorists to avoid him.
Tapia then drove onto the Mingus Avenue extension getting off at Rocking Chair Road an onto area dirt roads where he nearly striking a horse and rider.
Bystanders guided police to Yorba Lane, where Tapia had driven into a field, through a barbed wire fence and abandoned the car.
He was then spotted getting off the Verde River on the Cottonwood side. After a 40-minute search, Tapia was apprehended where he was hiding in a pump house on a Bridgeport property.
Tapia was charged with endangerment, criminal trespass, burglary, criminal damage, resisting arrest, aggressive driving, and driving on a suspended license. He was booked at the Camp Verde jail and held pending $25,000 bond.
PANT nips 'pot' sales in the bud
CLARKDALE -- PANT detectives busted up marijuana sales operations in Clarkdale Tuesday and Wednesday. Search warrants were served at adjacent apartments at the Highland Village complex on Lanny Lane in Clarkdale.
Officers allegedly found marijuana packaged for sale, currency, digital scales, drug paraphernalia and an AK-47 assault rifle. Four adults and one juvenile were detained, three were arrested and booked. Two more are still outstanding.
They include Luca Gervase, 27, Audriana Renteria, 20, Keana Summer Joy, 20, Amanda I. Pursino, 27, and a male teen.
The drug enforcement team is asking for charges to include possession of marijuana and marijuana for sale, possession of paraphernalia, conspiracy to sell marijuana and possession of a weapon during a drug offense.
On Wednesday another warrant was served at 1811 Hood Street on Yavapai-Apache land in Clarkdale. Officers seized about three quarters of a pound of marijuana, scales, and packaging.
Brian K. Williams, 36, was arrested and booked, charged with possession, transportation and possession for sale of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, use of a wire or electronic communication device during a drug transaction and DUI/drugs.
