CLARKDALE -- The Clarkdale Town Council will approve a call of election when it meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The call to election will designate the dates of the election and the purpose as well as the deadline for voter registration and the date for candidates to file nomination papers.
Once called by the council, the primary election will be held March 9, and the general election will be on May 18. Two 4-year terms for two council members will be open. Also on the ballot will be the Home Rule Option, which allows the Town of Clarkdale to use an alternative expenditure option from the restrictive rules of the state in setting a fiscal year budget.
Candidate packets were available Oct. 16, and information and candidate packets are available at the Town of Clarkdale Administration Building at 39 N. Ninth St.
Candidate packets may not be filed before 8 a.m. on Nov. 9, or after 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 9.
The election will be Vote by Mail only. No polling places will be provided.
The council also will consider approving a letter to Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick asking for her support for the benefits of the Land and Water Conservation Fund.
The LWCF was created by Congress in 1965 and authorized up to $900 million annually from offshore oil and gas leases revenue. Last year, according to a staff report prepared for the council, funding was only $155 million.
Over the years, Arizona projects have received matching funds totaling $58 million from the fund.
Local projects that have received funds include Dead Horse Ranch State Park, Slide Rock State Park, Clarkdale Municipal, Clarkdale Swimming, Cottonwood Riverfront Park, Cottonwood Swimming and Ball Field Park in Clarkdale.
The council meets in the Men's Lounge of the Clark Memorial Clubhouse at 19 N. Ninth St.
