COTTONWOOD - Police converged on a motor home in the Rio Verde RV Park Monday afternoon. Cottonwood police spokesman Gareth Braxton reports that the incident was a threats-suicide type situation. A woman reportedly was threatening to commit suicide with a knife.
Over a period of about four hours, police negotiated the woman out of the trailer at the RV park just east of the Verde River Bridge in Bridgeport. Once outside of the mobile, the woman was taken to the hospital for a medical and psychological evaluation. She had minor injuries. No one else was hurt.
Truck downs powerline
LAKE MONTEZUMA - About 100 power customers were without service for more than 12 hours Sunday when a pickup slammed into a power pole in Lake Montezuma. The pickup with three people on board knocked down a power pole about 2:10 a.m. at Cayuga and Montezuma Ave.
The vehicle suffered moderate damage and all three occupants of the vehicle were taken to Verde Valley Medical Center.
Because of the time taken to place a new pole and string line, power was not restored in the area until after 3 p.m. that afternoon.
Driver Orrin Iverson was arrested, charged with DUI and criminal damage.
Don't get out while moving
LAKE MONTEZUMA - A man who was a passenger in car jumped from the vehicle while it was still moving Sunday afternoon on Montezuma Avenue. He was returning home after visiting his girlfriend.
According to Montezuma-Rimrock Fire District, the vehicle was still traveling about 30 mph when the man got out.
He suffered a broken wrist and abrasions. But he was also bleeding from the head and reportedly had an "altered level of consciousness." As a consequence, he was flown to John C. Lincoln Medical Center in North Phoenix.
Old boyfriend pulls a gun on new boyfriend
COTTONWOOD - Police converged on the 800 block of Sixth Street Thursday after a man was threatened with a handgun.
The 18-year-old woman who called police said that her ex-boyfriend, Andrew Adams, 21, came to her house and began yelling at her current boyfriend Ryan about how he was treating her. He claimed Ryan was beating her.
She said she had dated Adams in the past but she had not seen him in about a year and thought he was living in California.
She was standing just outside the door and her boyfriend was just below the steps outside the
door, approximately two to three feet apart. According to the police report, Adams pointed the gun at her boyfriend while the woman was holding her nephew. She is also four months pregnant with her boyfriend's baby.
Adams, 21, and Kyle Coldiron, 18, were standing behind a parked car approximately 15 feet away from the porch. When she told Adams and Coldiron she was going to call police, they ran from the house west to North Sixth Street about 350 feet away. She said she thought they were going to the area where Adams was staying around 15th Street and Aspen.
The victim's boyfriend, Ryan, said that he "was standing near the front door and this guy I had never seen before yelled at me and pointed a gun at me."
Other Cottonwood officers contacted the suspects at Kyle Coldiron's house. They found the gun that Coldiron advised them had been used during the incident.
Later, while the jail staff was searching Adams' clothing they found a tube commonly used to snort drugs. A white substance in the tube was to be tested. The pistol will be sent off for fingerprint analysis.
Adams was charged with three counts of aggravated assault, including one charge per domestic violence. He was also charged with two counts of endangerment, including domestic violence, two counts of disorderly, including domestic, possession of drug paraphernalia, prison contraband and being a prohibited possessor.
Coldiron was arrested and charged with three counts each of facilitating aggravated assault and endangerment and disorderly conduct.
A 17-year-old juvenile girl, who was with the suspects but unseen by them, will be charged with adult crimes when she turns 18 on Nov. 5, according to police. Charges could include facilitating aggravated assault, endangerment, disorderly conduct and hindering prosecution.
Out buildings destroyed in CV fire
CAMP VERDE - A camp trailer used for storage, and an adjacent shed were destroyed in what is speculated to be an electrical fire in Camp Verde Monday. The Fire District says the two structures and a pump house were totally destroyed.
The structures were parked near a private home, but Camp Verde Fire contained the blaze to the out-structures.
Imprisoned man questioned about missing woman
CAMP VERDE - A man will finally be questioned about the missing woman he was seen with last. Robert Stuart Reed has been imprisoned for more than 10 years on an arson conviction.
Reed, 55, was convicted in January of burning down his own home to claim the insurance valued. He was still at large when the trial was held.
Reed has been linked to the disappearance of Kristal Forest of Camp Verde.
She had planned to drive her red 1997 Nissan Pathfinder while towing a U-Haul trailer to Austin, Texas. She was expected to arrive on April 2, but never did and has not been heard from since.
On April 2, the U-Haul trailer rented by Kristal was turned in after business hours to a storage lot in Las Cruces, N.M. A surveillance video shows an unidentified pick-up dropping off the trailer.
