FLAGSTAFF -- Investigators believe the Potato Fire may have started on private property in the Potato Flat area around Potato Tank from a camp fire that was left unattended or became out of control.
The Potato Fire burned a structure on private property located on the back portion or south 11 acres of Potato Ranch.
The Potato Fire is currently about 100 acres. Fire managers are planning to continue suppression and mop-up on this fire through tonight and tomorrow.
Anyone with information regarding activity, suspicious persons or vehicles in the area of Potato Flats or Potato Tank during the late afternoon or evening hours of Sunday October 18, 2009 is urged to call the Coconino County Sheriff's Office at (928) 774-4523 or 1-800-338-7888.
The fire was originally reported Monday afternoon by a citizen. It is located about 10 miles north of Flagstaff in the White Horse Hills area, three miles east of SR 180 and FR 418.
About 40 personnel, including one dozer, two water tenders, and eight engines are working the fire.
Smoke above the Rim from the fire has been visible from the Verde Valley.
