VERDE VALLEY - Thanks to an increase in sales tax rates by the city council, Cottonwood is the only Verde Valley community to continue to show a jump in both retail sales tax and total sales tax from month to month. In September, Cottonwood's retail tax collections climbed from $446,396 in 2008 to $539,432 in 2009. Total collections in all categories for September also increased from $770,027 last year to $851,036 this year. Year-to-date collections jumped from $2,375,958 last September to $2,668,762 this year.

Clarkdale finally got some help from the town council's recent increase in the town's sales tax rate. Retail sales tax revenue went up to $6,150 for September compared with $5,125 for last year. But the total tax revenue for Clarkdale is still lagging behind last year. Collections for all tax categories in September were $45,981, down from $53,901 last year. Year-to-date sales tax revenue is down from $177,987 last year to $144,800 this year.

Camp Verde continues to see significant drops in sales tax revenue. In September, the city's retail tax collection dropped from $59,398 in 2008 to $39,633 this year. Total sales tax collections also dropped from $169,480 last September to $150,643 this year. Year-to-date revenue dropped to $517,857 this September from last year's $588,067.

Jerome also saw significant drops in sales tax revenue from September last year. Retail collections dropped from $15,098 last year to $11,278 this year. Total sales tax revenue in all categories dropped to $35,810 this September from $40,108 last year. Year-to-date sales tax revenue dropped from $117,012 last September to $114,560 this year.

Sedona saw a drop in September's retail sales tax to $238,075 this year from $254,097 last year. It's the same story in the total sales tax category with a drop from $1,017,988 last year to $990.181 this year. Year-to-date revenue also is drooping this year with $3,064,772 collected through September compared with $3,366,266 for the same period last year.
