Verde Valley Fire District is hosting the fourth annual Fire & Steel Run to benefit Trauma Intervention Programs of Arizona this Saturday.
Seven TIP volunteers were among the unsung heroes of the Angel Valley sweat lodge tragedy last week.
TIP volunteers are citizens trained to provide immediate emotional and practical support to victims of traumatic events and their families in the first few hours after a tragedy. Such events may include the death of a loved one, medical emergency, suicide, auto accident, or domestic violence. The volunteers are called to a crisis scene or to a local hospital by police officers, firefighters, or hospital personnel 24/7.
The Fire and Steel Run is among the benefits that supports the volunteer program in the Verde Valley. It runs Saturday, Oct. 17. Kickstands go up at 10 a.m. from the Willard Street parking lot of the Verde Valley Medical Center.
The run will first parade west on SR 89A through the roundabouts, into Clarkdale, back out Broadway through Old Town Cottonwood.
The first stop and dice roll for the run will be the Public Safety Building on 6th Street in Cottonwood.
The remaining dice rolls will take place at Jerome, Cornville, VOC, and Camp Verde Fire Stations.
Bikers are encouraged to let their kids ride along. They will have a great opportunity to visit several Fire Stations along the way.
The ride will end at the Moose Lodge at 1051 S. Broadway in Clarkdale, for an afternoon and evening of food, prizes, and a dance featuring the Cadillac Angels.
Cost for the full event is $25 per rider and $20 per passenger. Registration includes dinner, run card, entertainment and a raffle ticket for a Kawasaki motorcycle. For anyone interested in only the dinner, dance and entertainment, registration is $15.00.
The event will hold a 50/50 drawing and have raffle tickets available for some great prizes. Separate raffle tickets for the Kawasaki 900 Vulcan LT Classic bike, are $10 each or 3/$25.
Everyone is invited to come out and join a great day of fun and help benefit a terrific program.
Register for this run on-line at www.TIPofAZ.org, register the day of the event, or pick up a registration form at Verde Valley Fire Station 31, 2700 Godard Road, in Cottonwood. For more information call Captain Mike Rauton at 634-2578.
