More loot, believed drug money, seized on Interstate

CORDES JUNCTION -- Just after 10 a.m. last Sunday, Sept. 20, a DPS officer stopped a 2009-Toyota Avalon on driving southbound Interstate-17, in the Cordes Junction area.

After stopping the car for moving violations a narcotics canine alerted to the vehicle and during a search of the sedan, the DPS officer located a thick stash of cash. $23,880 in U.S. currency was seized along with drug paraphernalia in the trunk of the vehicle.

The driver and lone occupant, James Clark Dalton, 26, of Cody, Wyo., was arrested on money laundering charges. The money was seized and vehicle was returned to the rental agency.

'Just curious' makes a good point. It probably depends on whether Mr. Dalton is convicted of money laundering or not. If found not guilty, does he get his money back? (with interest?) and if found guilty, where does the seized money go? Laundered money has been seized before, so the answer to this question should be publicly available.

Once again, even though this is just a smallish amount compared to some. The question still remains,as before,specifically what happens to the money from here?

He looks pretty happy. Must have more money somewhere for a good lawyer. Why doesn't the story say what the drugs/paraphernalia was? Unless it was heroin, I say the cops should have something better to do.
