Letter: Modifications will stop the massacres

Editor:

Perhaps you missed the testimony of the sister of one of the courageous teachers murdered at New Town. She said that the crime scene photos have not been released, but her sister’s bloody clothes have been returned to her with baseball sized holes, and that each of the 20 murdered children had from three to seven similar wounds. Noah, the youngest of the children, was one of the children who had seven baseball-sized holes in his tiny 6-year-old body.

The day after New Town a crazed man in Japan attacked an elementary school. Four children were wounded, but none were killed. Why? The mentally disturbed man only had a knife.

Those of us who think the massacres at Virginia Tech, Tucson, Aurora, New Town and Columbine must stop, support a three-pronged approach to modification of the Second Amendment, not the rescinding of it.

Those three modifications are:

l. A universal, comprehensive background check.

2. The banning of assault weapons as outlined in SB150, Senator Feinstein’s bill.

3. The banning of the multi-shot cartridges.

If you agree with this approach, please wear a green ribbon to show our legislators that there is a grass roots movement in this country for a rational, reasonable approach to guns.

A.E. Andress

Shame on every politician who did not vote for background checks and gun show parking lot sales of weapons. I am ashamed of them. All guns must have serial numbers and ability to track. Additonally there was a terrorist show at our local US Post Office on Thursday. I witnessed a display and photo of President Obama with a Nazi type mustash and a impeachment slogan. I was OUTRAGED. and demanded that the local police and sheriff remove these terrorist from out streets and town. This is unacceptable and uncivil. I will contact homeland security and the FBI if I see this again and I will complain if the local law enforcement does not take action immediately.

To PF:

Sorry to see you backsliding into glittering generalities. You know as well as I do that conflation is not the way to protect your Fourth Amendment rights, and I know you are capable of much more cogent arguments.

Article comment by: Why don't guns have serial numbers on them like cars do?

A gun should be able to be traced just like cars, from the factory to the current owner. Then we will figure out where the loopholes exist of guns getting into the wrong hands.

Think that this would be against your rights guaranteed by the Constitution? Well what about my right to live without fear that some nut with a gun is going to shoot me while watching a movie at Harkins?

Article comment by: sounds like 'I Think NOT' agrees! .

Indeed there are so many laws that don't work already so why add more? In fact scrap them all...

If laws don't work is your excuse for not having new laws then why have any at all?

It seems that "I Think NOT" may be more of a statement that just an opinion, how ironic?

First off a universal, comprehensive background check will NOT stop criminals from getting guns. They will always find a way to get them. Secondly, if Senator Feinsteinís for it, I'm Against it. Third, what the hell is a multi-shot cartridge? Is that some mindless definition Senator Feinstein came up with? Last, don't we have enough gun laws on the books that don't work? What makes you think one more will help or work?

@ Mary Jane

Instead of hammering A.E.' suggestions with your own emotional tirade, why not add an item #4 to try to do something about the anti-depressant prescriptions and the underlying mental illness?

We need to stop the emotional lies of the Right Wing as they pertains to the 2nd Amendment and their asinine logic regarding weapons. The correlation between guns and gun murders is not coincidental and is more than casual.

Keep in mind Mary, the liberal political gun agenda contrasted to the neoconservative political gun agenda does not result in more people being murdered by guns.

I'd say the NRA and its right wing sucklings do a great job of ensuring a high residual level of gun violence.

Mitch McConnell's and the NRA's sarcastic reaction to the failure of the background check legislation says, in so many words, "We are ecstatic that we just guaranteed more people will be murdered!"

Article comment by: So if more gun laws will not solve the issue... .

Because criminals don't obey the laws, then please explain why we have anti- drug laws?

Using the gun clubs logic laws are useless and therefore we don't need any.

Correct?

Glad we solved that issue.

As usual, the Liberal gun-fearing crowd becomes so emotional that they can't see the forest but for the trees.

Consider this (written by Mike Adams for the Organic Consumers Association)

Giving young men antidepressant drugs is just like building silent timebombs and waiting around for one to suddenly go off. Chemically assaulting these young, troubled brains with powerful drugs -- while denying them real mental health solutions based on nutrition -- is the bread and butter of modern psychiatry, an industry that in my opinion has sold its soul to drug companies and now serves primarily as a glorified system of legalized drug dealers that preys upon children and teenagers.

What is the common denominator in the massacres you mentioned?

Anti-depressants!

The correlation between anti-depressants and gun violence by young men is NOT coincidence! There is a causal link between the two!!!!!!!

We need to stop the emotional blackmail by the liberals shamelessly pushing their political agenda and get to the REAL root of the problem.
