Cottonwood looks to upgrade Thunder Valley Rally event

COTTONWOOD -- The City of Cottonwood has hired a production company to take the Thunder Valley Rally motorcycle event to the next level.

The City Council Tuesday approved a contract with the new motorcycle event production company, the 4-Coyotes Production LLC.

While the company is a new one, the four participants have deep roots in the motorcycle community and have already produced motorcycle-related events in Arizona and the Southwest for years.

Parks Special Events Coordinator Hezekiah Allen said that while the Verde Valley has spectacular views, Cottonwood found that may visitors already spend a lot of time on their bike getting to Cottonwood and are not so enthusiastic about another 160-mile run, even though the participation grew in Cottonwood's second year of production.

The agreement calls for the company to "garner sponsorship dollars, solidify national entrainment and promote the Thunder Valley Rally."

Councilman Terence Pratt told the members that they already come with a great resume, even though the TVR is likely to be their first as a new organization.

Jim Moore did most of the talking. Moore already is part of the publication of the Arizona Biker Information Guide, a quarterly periodical of motorcycle events and advertisers. He and Ed LeClere also emcee for many events.

Moore says Cottonwood is the only Arizona city that has a Main Street open to motorcycles. He says Cottonwood could be the "Sturgis of the Southwest."

"Already, you are not much smaller than Sturgis," says Moore. Once local motels fill up, "outlying areas pick up the slack."

You will probably just want to block off larger sections of Main Street as the production grows.

However, they emphasized that it is the intention to encourage family activities.

Mayor Diane Joens said she has heard concerns that retailers did not know how to market to the biker community, and the group said they could help with that.

The agreement calls for the city to advance $15,000 to the promoters as seed money for the event.

I couldn't agree more. Gaia Gurl is the most insulting poster on VI website. If you don't agree with her then she will name call and question your intelligence in a heartbeat but if you do it, you have nothing intelligent to say. Go figure!!!
I stopped reading her posts long ago because her angry diatribe gets old after the first few words.
I agree, it is extremely scary to think she is in a classroom influencing children. Her attitude alone is scary without adding her anti-government rants to it!! It's always about someone out to get her.

@ Gaia Gurl

You wrote "I love it when the NAME calling and ad homenins begin . . .
It proves, without a DOUBT, that you have nothing of VALUE or intelligence to say."

Since you also posted - "YOU are probably a ONE DIMENSIONAL human being..." and "You probably let the FOX guard your CHICKENS and then wonder where they went! LOL" previous to that, I guess we can all rest assured that YOU have Nothing of Value or Intelligent to say either.

Though most of us here were already aware of that, thank you nonetheless for confirming it for everyone. Peace

I have been in the classroom HERE for the last DECADE. How do you know I have not ALREADY influenced your children and grandchildren? I may have actually TAUGHT them to THINK critically.

God has NOTHING to do with it.

Be AFRAID, be very AFRAID!

MUAHAHAHAHAHHA

Sorry Ms know-it-all. You have no idea what I do, who I am and whether I have one, two or more dimensions or personalities. I am thankful that my children and grand children will never have to experience your retoric in the classroom if, in fact, you ever are in a classroom. God Forbid.

LOL Mav

There was only ONE career listed. I am all those things . . . ALL the time.

YOU are probably a ONE DIMENSIONAL human being . . . but I don't know any others.

Good luck with calling the COPS to investigate the COPS!

Guess you never heard of the THIN BLUE LINE.

I called . . . the Supervisor NEVER called me back.

You probably let the FOX guard your CHICKENS and then wonder where they went! LOL

Are you kidding? The smoke out was boring and lame. It failed because of that. The cops weren't harassing the bikers and if you had your facts straight, during the three smoke outs, more locals were arrested and stopped for being morons then out of towners.

There has been a meeting, articles and letters regarding the USGS water flow model report and THIS gets more comments than something regarding our Water Supply? Our Water Supply that may not flow perennially anymore? Seriously? Put your heads back up on your necks where they belong.

Oh, BTW

I am a biker too! I own TWO of them. Most bikers are PROFESSIONALS! Attorneys, accountants, and apparently COPS, etc. LOL

Less gas, good for the ENVIRONMENT!

Labels just don't SHOW the whole picture, now do they?

So try and guess who I am . . . teacher, biker, volunteer, gun owner, Independent, Christian, hippie, grandparent, organic gardener . . .

BET YOU CAN'T! I could even be a MAN! LOL

@ Mav

I guess I would have to NEED help . . . never have.

Why do you think I moved to a small, PODUNK town?

It wasn't for the POLITICS, it was for the LACK of CRIME.

WHO do you call when it is the COPS that you need help from?

Besides . . . I AM a hippie and I have a GUN! LOL

And contrary to what YOU think, just because CS IS CS does not mean it is not USEFUL or valuable!

What a joke, a mini Sturgis???

As stated the Smoke Out was a great idea, cops ruined it.

Cottonwood will throw $15K at this one and bring in an easy $50K to $100K in tickets and fines, sounds like a good investment for Jody, Doug and the city of Cottonwood!

Article comment by: Will somebody please tell me

Will somebody please tell me who said Cottonwood wants the TVR to be another Sturgis? Not going to happen. If you came to it, you would see how calm it is. The music is great. I don't like the really loud bikes, or the need for some to rev their bikes to show they can make noise. Kind of like loud rap music. But, even though we have the wine sippers and the rocking chairs, this isn't going to drive Cottonwood down the forbidden path of evil-doers. :) It really has been nice for all ages of people to come down to Old Town and check out the music, food and shops. I saw it last year with my own eyes. I'm not a biker, I have ridden in the past and have known some super nice bikers. If you don't want to hear the bikes, maybe it's a good time to go up to Lake Mary or somewhere and sip some tea!
