CAMP VERDE -- Cheryl Oliver has been arrested, charged with fraudulent schemes and artifices, theft and two counts of forgery.

Oliver, 48, was the bookkeeper responsible for deposits several times each week from Alcantara Winery in Camp Verde.

The Yavapai Sheriff's Office report says that during the four-year period during which she recorded cash and checks in the ledger and made bank deposits, she had skimmed cash from the deposit totaling $81,114.42 over 387 transactions.

An accountant and attorney reviewed the books for the period September 2008 to March 2012, discovering the fraud. The review also found other suspicious discrepancies worth an additional $50,000.

The SO report says that "a record of all bank statements, cancelled checks, deposit slips, altered slips, end of day printouts and witness statements indicates Cheryl Oliver was responsible for the theft."

On each deposit, the amounts varied ranging from $10 to several hundred dollars.

Her bond was set at $80,000.

Funny how this happened a month ago but it's just now making the paper. Those that know her know that her honesty and integrity have been beyond reproach. I support her 100%.

There should always be an accounting-back-up person for the accountant! Happens too much!

This is about the fouth person arrested lately
for cooking the books and stealing funds from the organization they work for. Don't organizations have at least 2 people in charge of their funds so this type of thing doesn't happen?
I am amazed an outside audit is not made annually to keep this from happening.
