Letter: Let’s give Obama another four years to help our country

What a shame for our country that the Tea Party has co-opted the Republican Party. Although they continue to deify Ronald Reagan, I doubt he’d get elected if he ran today. He was far too moderate and reasonable, though heaven knows I didn’t think so at the time. He actually believed in compromise, imagine that. Today’s Republicans bear little resemblance to the actual conservative party they once were.

Republicans accuse President Obama of class warfare and elitism, but the reality is he’s working hard for you and me, for the middle class, while the Republicans only pretend to be. The Romney/Ryan proposed tax code would raise taxes on ordinary Americans while further reducing taxes on the wealthy!  If “trickle down economics” really worked, why are the richest getting richer, the stock market strong again, the CEOs still making record salaries, while many of the rest of us are still having a tough time?  I don’t see any new jobs created by Wall St., do you?

A lot of new jobs were made possible by the stimulus bill, and many GOP governors, including Bobby Jindal of LA, complained loudly about it, but they took the money and put it to good use in their states!  Isn’t that hypocritical?  And two of the most knowledgeable economists in the country, Paul Klugman and Robert Reich, have both said the stimulus was vital to boosting the economy at a time when the private sector was faltering and thought it should’ve been bigger, which it would’ve been if the GOP hadn’t fought so hard against it.

They opposed infusing the economy with much-needed cash, but were OK with an unpaid-for war?  And, it helped to keep thousands of teachers, policeman, and firefighters across the country on the job.  Sadly, many did lose their jobs, at a huge cost to the quality of public education and safety, not to mention the impact on those families and their communities.

The Republicans just blocked the Veteran’s Jobs Bill!  How could they do that?  Go fight and risk your life and be away from your families, but when you come back, we won’t help you??  If there was something in the bill they didn’t like, they never said, and didn’t try to negotiate any changes, they just blocked it.

Did you know that Mitch McConnell, GOP leader in the Senate, said from the very first minute of Pres. Obama’s tenure that their first priority was to make sure he’d be a one-term president?  Not jobs, not working to help get our country out of a bad recession, just wanting to do everything they could to make him look like a failure. Is that patriotic? Is it patriotic, or is it partisan politics, to obstruct and refuse to work with our democratically elected president?

And just a few days ago, McConnell complained about the “do-nothing” Congress! So his behavior isn’t just unpatriotic, it’s downright hypocritical.

The Republicans are trying hard to scare people about Obamacare. Did you know we’re the only modern country that doesn’t provide that for our citizens? They have lied about its costs, and said it’s going to rob Medicare.  That is blatantly false, and the Congressional Budget Office says that it will, in fact, save the country millions of dollars in the long run.  I would love to not have to worry about going bankrupt in the event of a serious illness, or face the prospect of losing my home.

The healthcare bill could’ve been better and could’ve been implemented more quickly, if Pres. Obama hadn’t been trying to cooperate with the GOP.  The GOP blocked many of the items he wanted in the plan - and yet they have all of it, the total package, for themselves!  But at least it’s a start and can be built upon, improved from here.  The intention is to help make healthcare affordable for everyone (is that elitist?), but the Republicans always vote in favor of Big Business, hence they’re on the side of the insurance industry, not you and me.

Republicans have tried to demonize union workers – witness what happened in Wisconsin last year.  Why?  Once again, because they always come down on the side of Big Business. Without the bargaining power of unions, many of those people would barely be making a decent wage, or have any kind of pension, or reasonable work hours.

Republicans’ pro-Big Business stance is also why they oppose any kind of legislation that protects the environment - because it may cost businesses some money. But don’t you think Big Oil can afford to be more careful? They make an astronomical amount of money every year. Why should they get away with polluting our oceans? And the proposed Tar Sands Project would jeopardize huge swaths of land and every river it crosses, which is why our president isn’t in favor of it. It’s not at all that he’s anti-business; it’s that we have a responsibility to protect our environment.

On a similar note, the GOP wants to convince people that climate change is a phony isssue, made up by liberals, in spite of all the hard science that supports it.  But if there was any doubt about it, wouldn’t you prefer to err on the side of caution and protect our planet for our grandchildren and all future generations?

The same attitude holds true with the gas companies drilling with fracking, which injects harmful chemicals into the earth: the stuff they use actually makes people’s water in those areas flammable! Yes, I have seen that with my own eyes on a segment of 60 Minutes.  But they get away with it, again with their buddies the Republicans blocking legislation that would protect the environment.

They’ve worked tirelessly at convincing as many people as possible that government regulation is the big bad boogey man, and I agree that in many cases we have too much regulation and too many laws, but this is an area in which we desperately need government regulation to prevent greedy tycoons from devastating our planet.

And, while the GOP scream about big government, they propose legislation of their own that is a huge invasion of the rights of private citizens like forced vaginal ultrasounds on women wanting an abortion.

Romney has shown himself to be completely incompetent in terms of foreign affairs - even many in his own party have said so.  His bravado and bluster will make enemies out of allies, and cause us to be regarded as bullies in the world, instead of working as part of the world community.  As we’ve seen with the widespread violence that resulted from the insulting video that went out on the Internet last week, costing the lives of four Americans, this is a volatile world, and it’s critical that we work together for peace.

President Obama, who has never apologized for America (in spite of their accusations, which they don’t back up with one single example), understands that, is respected around the world, and understands the importance of communication and cooperation.

Pres. Obama said, four years ago, that it would take some time to get things turned around, and he’s done a good job, with zero help from the Republicans.  There’s so much more to do. I’ll do my part to see that he gets another four years to help our country.

Well, folks, everybody better duck because here come the ranting and raving neocons attacking President Obama for the NEW unemployment numbers.

See, folks, this is how it works in the twisted, corrupted minds of the neocons who have hijacked the GOP [Greed Overwhelming Principle] and are dedicated to corporate [fascist] America.

THEY, wanted to believe the numbers when it made President Obama look BAD. However, NOT that the numbers make HIM look GOOD, letting everyone know his economic policies are working, the neocons shout FOUL.

Now, they claim the numbers are rigged. They say it is all a BIG LIE!.

Admittedly, since the GOP was the inventor of the BIG LIE beginning with Ronnie Reagan and his absurd reaganomics, it is difficult to argue with people who are so accustomed to lying.

One might think that surely THEY know a lie when they see it, BUT that is not true. See, folks, it is ther truth that the neocons in the GOP always fail to see, understand or recognize.

And, since they are the most petty-minded, mean-spirited people on planet earth, they are determined NOT to give any credit to President Obama for the blossoming economic recovery.

See, folks, the neocons want the economy to be a BLACK mark against the President. His own Afro-American heritage is enough of a black mark against him for neocons BUT they know that IF the economy is in recovery President Obama will win a second term in office and THAT drives the racist base in the GOP crazy [errrrr, crazier than they already are] and so they shout from the rooftops FOUL, FOUL. FOUL.

The only thing FOUL is the stench of GOP corporate [fascist] ideology and its fetid odor that taints the political process in America.

Sit back, relax and listen to them howl at the moon! They are literally beside themselves because President Obama will be around for four more years.

Romney, or the 'Romney which changes every day' lied to his first debate win and flip-flopped on so many issues I do not know where he stands on anything except tax cuts for the rich paid for buy the other 99% of us. He claims tickle down economics works contrary to a majority of ALL economists and history. Obama should be allowed to finish getting our country back on a good financial track. Romney who has sent jobs overseas is out of touch, period.

Help our country where, to the poor house? Four more years of lies like, I promise to cut our deficit in half? Another Nobel Peace Prize for doing nothing. A newly reported unemployment rate of 7.8? WHERE? Ask the 23+ million out of work Americans who know the real truth! Sure, this is what I want, another 4 years of deceit. What was the old saying? Fool me once shame on you.

Ms. Avery:
What planet are you living on? I have seen first hand the effects of the Stimulus Plan and, while it sounded good (translation - approach with caution!), it didn't do squat for creating any long term jobs. I saw it create a few opportunities for a few contractors (from the line of work I'm in) to do chip-seal projects on small stretches of roads here and there, but once those projects were over (usually a 60-day window +/-), there was nothing. Sure, we had a nice half mile stretch of road, but where were the long term jobs? Those companies that got the work didn't hire anyone new, or if they did, they were temps.
I thought things were bad when Jimmy Carter was in office and had to close my business then because it was so bad, but this crap we have with Obama is not only a joke, it's a disgrace! Maybe you can take 4 more years of "Hope and Change" Ms. Avery, but I can't and from everyone I talk to in the private sector, neither can they. Obama's policies are killing us! Get him the hell out of there.

Silly GOP fascists, democracies are for people! If corporations are people that means those that own them are slave-holders. Right wing fascists always want it both ways. How many times do you think Romney Inc. has filed for bankruptcy, yet has a perfect credit score? Let's see I'll buy this company, take out huge loans to pay myself extravagant bonuses, file for bankruptcy, sell off all the assets, ship the jobs to china then send the profits abroad to evade taxes! Kinda makes Mussolini look like a commie!!

@ Red Jac
You are passing on typical liberal misconstrued facts, 1- It has always been legal for women to be paid equal. 2- GM is supposedly close to bankruptcy again. 3- The week of the DNC their were 800,000 less people working in the U.S. than the day Obama took office.(still at a net loss), 4- When Bin Laden was killed Obama was sitting in the White House he really didn't have much to do with it.5- We are out of Iraq I will give you that one. 6- I own a small business, in the last 3 years regulations and paperwork have increased at a rediculous pace. In taxes and fees I pay much more than I did 3 years ago. 7- Affordable Care act still has the Jury out on that one, looks like the biggest Tax placed on the American people in the history of our country. We will know in a couple of years how much it will cost everyone. Looks like a huge boondoggle that noone really fully understands yet.The rest is a matter for debate. This being an election year typical political games are in effect. Everyone knows a certain bill should be passed so the Dems, in order to make the Republicans look bad, place idiotic and unreasonable provisions in these bills knowing the republicans morally and fiscally can not pass them then they yell and scream about how they block everything. Just to make a political gain the Dems could care less about the bill either, they just want re-elected also.
So it comes too what is the answer, Mitt Romney? I don't know, but as a successful business person he is most certainly better than 4 more years of unqualified and inept leadership( or lack of) from Pres. Obama. Now knowing you can't win this argument how many of you Libs will call me a racist since that is usually your last line of defense?

Dear MJ,
Usually, when I read drivel like your post, I respond with something sarcastic and rude. However, I realized 'bout half way thru your post, that you live in your own make believe world with your own set of "facts". And If I were to say something sarcastic and rude, or point out all your mistakes, it would shatter your make believe fantasy, and I would not feel happy with the results.
Please, turn off the TV, and take up a hobby, say.......like gardening or something like that. You can talk to the plants.

to inform your otherwise dim opinion... ms. avery is a small business owner... or "job creator" as you might say. what? hah.. yes.. there are non-"conservative" job creators out there... get used to it.

once again your own words say more about yourself that the one you directed them at. please keep talking, every time you open your mouth/type you shore up the liberal base against your inane reasoning and lack of depth.

What a shame for our country that the Progressives have co-opted the Democrat Party.

Boy, Judi, you need to wake up and see reality. Four more years of Obama and we'll be Venezuela. You'll do your part - yeah, to send America down the toilet.

I don't understand libs. Are they living on a different planet? The truth is plain to see. It doesn't take a genius to see what Obama has done to this country since he took office. He is a Socialist who wants to take this great country down and he's doing a good job of it. Instead of being so concerned about protecting our planet for our children and grandchildren, you need to focus on the national debt that Obama has driven up to a point where our children and grandchildren will suffer the consequences. (And, oh God, please don't blame it on Bush.)

Judi, if you don't like our healthcare system, move to England where they have socialized medicine. Why did the GOP block it? BECAUSE THE PEOPLE DON'T WANT IT!!! Obviously, you aren't aware of the 20 new taxes hidden in the Obamacare bill. Maybe you should get educated. Try http://www.newsmax.com/GroverNorquist/Obamacare-20-hidden-taxes/2012/06/29/id/443995

I also don't understand the libs' jealousy of the rich. I was taught as a child that jealousy was immoral and hateful. Are you jealous if your neighbor has a nicer house than you? Are you jealous if your neighbor has a nicer car than you? Maybe people worked extremely hard to get what they have. Ever think of that? I have a brother in law who is a millionaire. He started with nothing. I'm not jealous of him, I give him credit for busting his butt and working for every penny he has. But you would be jealous of him, just because he has more money than you. That's absurd. I don't understand why libs are so jealous and hateful.

I don't know, maybe you prefer to live in a third world country and be poor. I don't. I'm proud to live in the greatest nation in the world and I want to keep it that way for the sake of my children. I am a patriot and believe in the Constitution of the United States of America.

Capitalism may not be the perfect economic system in the world, but it is still the best economic system in the world. Capitalism creates wealthy people wealthy people create companies companies create jobs. Jobs allow those who work hard, like my brother in law, to become wealthy people. So please tell me, why would you hate wealthy people?

You have blinders on. You're looking at things only from one perspective. Maybe you should try looking at the other side. Read something besides the Huffington Post. You might learn something.

With disability skyrocketing, and food stamp use at an all time high, (never mind our own govt. pushing them in other countries of all things), any more of this kind of "improvement" and there won't be a USA anymore.
I don't really know if Mitt is the answer, but I'm certain Barry is not.
Every business owner in the Verde Valley is on pins & needles over the tax increases expected Jan. 2nd, raises have been frozen, new hiring has slowed to a trickle, and more & more businesses are shutting their doors.
We all know there is something bad coming, but we don't know exactly what or how bad - this is not the America we were hoping we'd be changed to.
Time to hire a new captain of this ship before it's too late.

Wow! Judy, if you put in the time spent to write that propagandist rant to discover the truth, you might find out your not such a raving liberal lunatic after all.
Why don't you read some real economists like Milton Freidman, Bill Buckley Jr. and Thomas Sowell.

Could not accomplish anything??
-First bill passed - Equal Pay Act for Women
-Saved the Auto industry and over 1,000,000 jobs
-When Obama took office, the US economy was LOSING 750,000 jobs a MONTH - during his term over 4,600,000 jobs have been created.
-Osama bin Laden DEAD - along with many of the Al Queda leadership
-We are out of Iraq - saving GI's lives and many tax $
- tax cuts for small business
-tax cuts on all wages
- Affordabe Care Act - lowers senors drug payments, guarantees health insurance for pre-existing conditions keeps children under parents health insurance until age 26 - and more
- Veteran's Job Bill - BLOCKED by Republican Senators
- Farm Bill - NOT PASSED by Republican House
-American Jobs Act (estimated 2+ million jobs by Moodys) BLOCKED by Republicans in both Houses.

I included the last 3 to show how difficult it is to get anything passed by a Republican Congress dedicated first to the defeat of the President, placing that goal even before the good of the nation.

Ms Avery covered all the reasons people should not vote for the Romney-Ryan ticket. Everyone should read each of her paragraphs over carefully. She has hit on every aspect of the campaign that is pertinent to the average American: healthcare, the environment, the economy, unions, women's rights, government regulation, foreign affairs. No one so far has put it all together as she has. Teachers, police, firefighters, union and private workers, blue collar and middle class workers, seniors, women, all have a tremendous stake in how this election turns out. Don't shoot yourselves in the foot by voting for Mr. Big Knowledgeable Businessman Mitt. He'll only sell you out to the Big Banks, the Big Investors, Big Ag, China or Dubbai!

The recession was declared ended in June, 2009, 5 months after Obama took office and before his massive stimulus spending went into gear. Where are we today? GDP of 1.3%. His policies have failed. It's time to dump him and try growing the economy through the market instead of government spending. His Middle East foreign policy is in flames, his apology tour failed. Muslims will be Muslims. They still hate us no matter how much we kiss up.
