Janet Kelly is Vice President of the Cottonwood Branch of National Bank of Arizona. She is this year’s selection as the Verde Valley Pride Awards 2012 Business Person of the Year.
Since 2008, Janet has been a banking center manager for the Cottonwood branch. Prior to working for National Bank of Arizona, she was a real estate broker at Coldwell Banker Mabery where she was recognized as being a Top 20 agent out of 600 agents.
Janet said she was “shocked” to learn that she had won the Business Person of the Year award. She said there are so many people in the Verde Valley who give of their time and do much for their communities.
“I just feel honored,” she said.
Cottonwood Mayor Diane Joens nominated Janet for the award. Joens said it is extremely difficult to find an individual with Janet’s leadership, dedication, intelligence, kindness and commitment to community. She said Janet is obviously a hard worker who applies herself diligently to anything she sets out to accomplish.
“I can speak highly of Janet’s character,” Joens said. “She is dependable. When she says she’ll do something, she keeps her word.”
Joens said that life’s challenges have instilled in Janet an ability to empathize with those who have experienced loss. Janet helped form a Verde Valley chapter of Compassionate Friends, a support group for parents and siblings who have lost children.
Regional Sales Manager for National Bank of Arizona, Debra Carbone, said she personally wanted to recognize Janet for the impact she has had through her role with Verde Valley Leadership.
“One thing Janet knew for sure is she wanted to give back to the community and participating in VVL was going to be a good partnership,” Carbone said.
Not only was Janet a graduate of the VVL Class III in 2008, but she has also served on the board from 2009 through 2011. She now serves as the organization’s president.
Current VVL Class VI member, Bobbie Gooslin said her first impression of Janet was that she is a leader, and that Janet still inspires her.
“Janet always gives encouragement, is positive and diplomatic – with such grace,” Gooslin said. “Janet Kelly is the leader I am so proud to say is in charge of the VVL family and mentoring my class.”
In addition to devoting time to VVL and other community organizations, Janet enjoys spending time with her husband of 35 years, Rick Kelly, her sons and grandsons. She would like, eventually, to open a Verde Valley butterfly park in memory of her daughter, Jennifer.
