COTTONWOOD – The Vineyard Wine Bar opened at 1001 N. Main St. in Old Town March 19. Jim Newberry is the owner.

“I bought the building in 2005 and finally decided to do something with it,” he said.

That something is a comfortable space that serves wine and beer. A “high scale, nice place to bring a date or business meeting,” according to Newberry.

The Vineyard Wine Bar offers wine tasting, a private tasting room, and wine and beer to go. One of the wines featured is Granite Creek Vineyards, a local vineyard that makes sulfite-free wine with certified organic grapes.

Beers are bottled or on draft. Draft beers include Budweiser, Little Momma Yella Pilz, Oak Creek, Four Peaks Kiltlifter and Four Peaks Hefeweizen.

The business will also offer wine tasting classes. One is scheduled for May 12 from 7-9 p.m. Space is limited, so call to save a spot. Price is $15 each.

The bar plans to offer live music each Saturday from 9 – midnight. Saturday night will feature Destin Casimiro.

When asked what makes the Vineyard Wine Bar unique, Newberry said “Northern Arizona, our bar and attitude.”

Hours are noon to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and noon to close on Friday and Saturday.

Call (928) 634-2440.

It is a misconception that wines can be made without Sufites. Wines can be made without "Added" Sulfites(won't age well) and must be labled "No Sulfites Added", but Sulfites are naturally occuring and are in almost everything. Another misconception is people, who get headaches from drinking Red Wine, think they're having a reaction to the Sulfites so they drink White Wines. Well, there are much more Sulfites in White Wine. What they are most likely reacting to is a histamine from the skin.
