COTTONWOOD -- The Cottonwood City Council has agreed to increase the economic potential of the Old Town Jail by adding wine tasting.
The traditional jail cage would remain intact, according to Lisa Pender of the Old Town Association, but the small stone faced building at the end of Main would be remodeled and updated to accommodate a wine vendor.
Sedona Manager Doug Bartosh told the council that one winemaker, Page Spring Cellers, approached the city about space for a wine tasting room and the old jail was suggested, but city officials thought it would be more fair to allow all the wine vendors to bid on the location though a Request for Proposal.
The eventually lessee will be required to upgrade the interior of the building and flooring, air conditioning and landscaping. In exchange Bartosh suggested to the council that the lease costs would be relaxed for a period.
