Oak Creek Valley celebrates 40th anniversary
Did it really happen? Was it a dream ... or a miracle? The 40th Anniversary Event in Oak Creek Valley was scheduled for months. Plans were in place for a full-day event, including bird walks, guided trail hikes, kids fishing derby, neighborhood art walk, a history presentation, capped off by a catered barbecue in the park, anniversary cake, home-made ice cream and music.

Valley pioneer gives history lesson on Cottonwood Roadrunners
Verde Valley resident, Don Godard, recently re-joined the Cottonwood Roadrunners square dance club after a 29 year break.

Godard may be the square dancer with the most historical ties to the club. He recently sat down with his daughter, Connie Phillips, and explained his experience with this cultural past time.

Sharing a little puppy gratitude
Ever since our dog, Cookie, died almost three years ago, I have been dogless. It’s not that I didn’t want another dog much sooner. Since my husband, Steve, is not the animal lover that I am, I had promised to honor his request to wait awhile before bringing another canine companion into our lives.

Running 2,448 miles from Chicago to Los Angeles, U.S. Highway 66 was born Nov. 11, 1926. It rolled across Illinois, Missouri, Kansas (only 12 miles), Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California, and it lived almost 60 years before being pronounced dead June 27, 1985.
