Five-year-old Samiyah loves school and says her favorite subject right now is the alphabet. She likes swimming a lot, and says she also likes to climb things "like trees and mountains."

Think back to your childhood ... Who was the special person who showed you the Big Dipper for the first time? Or took you to your first ball game? Or taught you how to fly a kite?

It's often the simple things in life that form our favorite memories. Yet it isn't until we are grown that we realize how these moments transformed our lives and made us who we are.

By becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister, you can make a difference in the life of a child - simply by listening, encouraging and just being there.

Meet Samiyah, an outgoing 5-year-old girl. Samiyah is imaginative and energetic. She loves to play games and make-believe with her friends.

She is especially fond of drawing, coloring hearts and rainbows, and learning new arts and crafts. She also plays soccer and participates in dance classes.

Samiyah loves school and says her favorite subject right now is the alphabet. She likes swimming a lot, and says she also likes to climb things "like trees and mountains."

Her favorite book and movie is "Pooh Bear," and she also likes Hannah Montana, Barbie and Thomas the Train.

Samiyah lives with her mom, her grandmother, an older brother and sister, two dogs, a cat and several birds. Samiyah's grandmother often cares for her and her siblings while their mother is working.

Samiyah's mother would like her to be matched with a couple or a family. Samiyah's brother is matched with a Big Brother, and her mother thinks that it would be a benefit if Samiyah had her own "Big."

Samiyah simply wants to be matched with someone to have fun with.

Do you like to hike or play board games? Maybe you enjoy arts and crafts? Why not share your interests with a young person like Samiyah? Right here in the Verde Valley, there are hundreds of children, just waiting for someone like you to be a Big Brother, Big Sister or Family Match.
