Detectives investigate death of elk hunter
BLUE RIDGE - Coconino Sheriff's detectives and deputies are investigating the death of 27-year-old Skylar Stock of Queen Creek.  Skylar was struck by a large tree while he slept in a camp tent in the Blue Ridge area.  The Coconino County Sheriff's Office received this report from the Gila Sheriff's office, which got the initial 911 call on Monday.

CAMP VERDE - Sunday afternoon north of Camp Verde, a Yavapai County Sheriff's K9 deputy stopped a new Nissan sedan with Florida plates Florida on suspicion of speed and following too closely.

RV fire stops traffic on 260
Camp Verde Fire was called to a fifth-wheel trailer fire on State Route 260 Thursday afternoon. When crews arrived at milepost 223, they found the RV on the roadside fully involved in flames.

Woman leads deputies on vehicle chase through Cornville
Yavapai Sheriff's Office deputies were called to a trespassing report on Frey Ranch Road in Cornville Thursday. Property owners showed deputies a marooned Honda Element in their field.

DPS Officer critical condition after hit by tractor-trailer
Arizona Dept. of Public Safety Officer Kenneth J. Henscheid was injured just after midnight Sunday morning after he was hit by an out-of-control semi-tractor trailer traveling north on I-17 near Munds Park. Henscheid had just arrived to investigate an earlier rollover accident involving a van and had parked his patrol car on the northbound right shoulder of I-17 at milepost 322. The van had been northbound but lost control, crossed through the median and rolled over into southbound lane.

DUI suspect attempts stolen-vehicle ruse to avoid arrest
Late Saturday evening, Yavapai County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a vehicle accident on Beaverhead Flats Road at mile post 5, just outside of the Village of Oak Creek. Deputies found a red 1996 Honda passenger car had crashed off the side of the road.

Cottonwood woman struck and killed
COTTONWOOD - A Cottonwood woman was killed Saturday night in a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident. Amy Strange, 51, was walking southbound and crossed the highway from the east side of Sixth Street when she was struck by a vehicle headed east on the highway.

Saturday, November 28th H1N1 vaccination clinics canceled
Yavapai County Community Health Services announces the cancellation of the Saturday (Nov. 28th) H1N1 High Risk flu shot clinics due to inadequate supply of vaccine and lack of further vaccine delivery this holiday week. The Saturday clinics were scheduled to be held at the Bradshaw High School East Campus in Prescott Valley and at the Cottonwood County Complex on 6th Street.

Cottonwood man found guilty of kidnapping and attempted child molestation
On Wednesday, Nov, 18, following a four-day trial, Yavapai County Superior Court jurors found Byron Dean Ferguson guilty of kidnapping and attempted child molestation. The charges stemmed from events which occurred in the Cottonwood area in early June 2008.

PRESCOTT - The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday it is investigating allegations that an employee, Capt. David Starin, was involved in an on-duty sexual relationship.

Yavapai County Community Health Services will hold an H1N1 vaccination clinic Saturday for people at high risk from the swine flu. The clinic will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Cottonwood County Complex at 10 S. Sixth St.

YAVAPAI COUNTY - In recent weeks, Yavapai Sheriff's deputies took two reports of a telephone fraud targeting seniors. A caller contacts an older person claiming to be his or her grandson and shares a believable story of an involvement in an accident or criminal incident in Canada and subsequent arrest.
