For almost six years -- right through a deep recession -- Acme Pizzaria has been turning out pizza, calzones, subs and other culinary delights for folks in Cottonwood. This year’s Verde Pride Business of the Year clearly enjoys returning the favor to the community.
Ronilee and Roland Oates moved to the Verde Valley to open Acme Pizzaria in 2006. Roland had 27 years experience in the pizza and Italian food business and it was a natural.
Roni cites their business formula: “Turn out a good product, be polite and kind and treat customers like guests.”
The pizzeria has earned the Golden Plate Award five years running and the National Restaurant Association’s 2009 Restaurant Neighbor Award.
But that is only half of the story.
Ronilee and Roland have been big contributors to local athletics, student water education, the Humane Society and those that are not so lucky.
“It feels good helping those who need it. I cried when I first saw homeless kids that were hungry,” said Ronilee.
Last year, Acme donated nearly $750 to Georgie’s annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner event and donated food for the Action Partnership. They have donated to ProjectWET, Verde River Days, as well as Little League, Mingus Football/Cheerleading and the Flip City Booster Club. They have also supported Relay for Life and the Verde Valley Humane Society.
