SpeakOut AZ and LWV host Get Out the Vote Rally

The League of Women Voters of Greater Verde Valley and SpeakOut Arizona have teamed up to have a Get Out the Vote Rally on Thursday from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Cottonwood Recreation Center, 150 S. Sixth St., Cottonwood.

Monday, July 28, is the last day to register to vote for the Aug. 26 Primary Election! Early ballots will be mailed out beginning July 30. It is time to get to know the candidates running for election to represent you, the voter, at the local, state and national level. It is time to encourage your friends, neighbors, organization memberships, co-workers, and family to vote and remind them their vote does count.

Benefit car wash at Rio Verde Plaza

July 18

Car wash at the Rio Verde Plaza, corner of Main and Fain, from 8 a.m. to noon Friday. Organizers are raising money for 13-year-old Bailey Jager, who is suffering from Alopecia, a disease that causes her hair to fall out. All money raised is for Bailey's hair treatment. Frank Riggs Meet & Greet at Verde Valley Republican Office

Meet Frank Riggs, who is running for Arizona governor, on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Verde Valley Republican Office, 542 N. Main St., Cottonwood. Riggs is a successful small businessman, CEO of national education nonprofit, three-term U.S. congressman, pro-life, NRA-endorsed, Army veteran, former police officer, national leader of charter school movement.

VV Computer Club meetings

The Verde Valley Computer Club Digital Camera Special Interest Group (SIG) meets Friday at 5 p.m. Topic: 'Picasa: Organizing and Renaming Photos'. SIG presenter is Jody Wheeler. Keep your pictures so they are easily located. The General Meeting is Saturday at 10 a.m. This is a Potluck Luncheon. Bring a covered dish to share. Grilled BBQ chicken will be provided. A special short program begins at 10 a.m. presented by Gayle Glomski of Page Springs Cellars. Also, wear your Red, White and Blue outfit and try for a prize. Birthday Bash for homeless pets

The Verde Valley Humane Society is hosting a Birthday Bash for all the homeless dogs and cats at the shelter, Sunday 2-5 p.m. Join them for hot dogs, cupcakes, dog smooches and more. The event is free, but bring some cash as they are featuring a Super Silent Auction and valuable raffle prizes. The VVHS is located at 1520 W. Mingus in Cottonwood, or call (928) 634-7387.

Art Workshop exhibit at Jerona

July 22-Sept. 16

The members of the Art Workshop of Cottonwood Ranch will display their work at the Jerona Java Café, 677 E Mingus Ave, Cottonwood from July 22 to Sept. 16. The displays will consist of paintings and prints by the members, some for sale, reasonably priced, and other for display only. The public is encouraged to attend.

The Art Workshop is an organization for residents of Cottonwood Ranch under the auspices of the Club at Cottonwood Ranch. Members meet weekly to work on individual projects. An opening reception of the exhibit will be held at the Jerona Java Café on Saturday, July 26, from noon to 2 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Family Movie Night at the Vineyard

Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Cottonwood is having a family movie night on Saturday at 5 p.m. showing THE LEGO MOVIE. Open to the public with free admission, free popcorn, and free candy. Bring a chair to sit on or blanket to lie on, and a drink. The Vineyard is located on the corner of Zaleskey Road & 89A in Cottonwood (Bridgeport) at the light. Everyone is welcome.

CV Historical Society Museum

The Rotating Community Exhibit case at the Camp Verde Historical Society Museum is displaying a beautiful queen size quilt made by Helen Tackitt. The quilt was donated by Helen to raffle off during Fort Verde Days in October. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit the CV Historical Society, where tickets are now on sale Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A visit to the Museum/Visitor's Center is free and open to the public. Historical Society Members are on hand to answer questions on Tuesdays. The Museum/Visitor's Center is located in Historic Downtown Camp Verde at 435 S. Support group for caregivers of Alzheimer's patients

Aug. 6

Each month Verde Valley Presbyterian Church hosts a free support group for caregivers of Alzheimer's patients. Meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month from 10 to 11 a.m. (please arrive by 9:45 a.m.) VVPC is located at 1500 E. Hombre Drive in Cottonwood. Mary Novar, a Family Care Consultant from the Alzheimer's Association, will be presenting at this meeting. She can answer your questions about the disease and the programs available to help those living with ALZ and/or caregivers. Call (928) 771-9257 for more information.

McGuireville History/Mystery Tours

Aug. 7-28

The Beaver Creek Preservation and Historical Society presents Arizona historian Bill Cowan conducting McGuireville History/Mystery Tours every Thursday in August. Morning tours are Aug. 14 and Aug. 28 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Evening tours are Aug. 7 and Aug. 21 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tours are $15 per person and group size is limited. The goal is to educate and share our rich history with others. We are going to tell the stories these buildings would tell if they could talk.

You will learn who gave McGuireville its name, how the roads have changed and why, even bootlegging. The money collected goes to the development of the newly formed BCPHS.

This is a great opportunity for a hands-on tour where you will feel history come alive.
