Blue Christmas with Sweet Baby Ray at My Dobro

Local Blues band Sweet Baby Ray is performing their third annual Christmas Blues Show at My Dobro Grill in the Fry's Cottonwood Plaza. This specialty event will feature Blues holiday originals with some classics, on Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. To reserve a very memorable holiday experience, call (928) 634-3800.

Bread of Life Thanksgiving dinner set for Tuesday

At 5 p.m. Tuesday, Bread of Life will serve Thanksgiving dinner at the Camp Verde Community Center gym. Six local churches will help with meal preparation and serving: Calvary Chapel, Camp Verde Community Church, New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene, Parkside Community Church, Camp Verde Baptist Church and Beaver Creek Baptist Church. Camp Verde Kiwanis Club will also participate. And the Bread of Life Worship Team, with Bread of Life Director Duane Burris on drums, will play live music. Before serving dinner, Bread of Life will offer a special Thanksgiving message. Following dinner, people can take home leftovers and a box of food. For more information, call (928) 567-6931.

Reese's Tire hosts benefit for Thornburg, Zunitch families

Reese's Tire & Automotive, 2435 E. 89A (just past Sizzler in Cottonwood), will be hosting a benefit-fundraiser for the families of Danny (Bugsy) Thornburg and Charles (Chuck) Zunitch. This coming Tuesday, they are offering a $25 oil change with all proceeds going to help these two families. The mechanics have donated their time and all oil has been donated by SC Fuels in Camp Verde, and oil filters are donated by NAPA in Cottonwood. If you are not due for an oil change at this time, but would still like to donate, you can make your donation and schedule the oil change for a later date.

The entire community has been affected by this tragedy so please come out and lets show our support for the wonderful families of these two young men.

Hanukkah Celebration at the JCSVV

Nov. 29

Friday, Erev Shabbat services begin at 7:30 p.m. led by Rabbi Alicia Magal. The Hanukkiah (Hanukkah menorah) will be lit with the third candle of the festival before ushering in the Sabbath with the lighting of the Shabbat candles.

Sunday, Dec. 1, no religious school, because of the holiday celebration in the afternoon.At 4 p.m., Hanukkah party with songs, traditional foods, and lighting a Hanukkah menorah at each table. Bring a Hanukkiah from home, plus 6 candles (5 for the fifth night of Hanukkah, plus a shamash, helper candle). Call the office for reservations: (928) 204-1286.

Ice Skate at Posse Grounds Park

Dec. 1-8

For the first time ever, it is possible to ice skate in Sedona! Come join others for free ice skating (skates included) from Sunday to Sunday. The ice rink will be set up on the softball field at Posse Grounds Park, 525 Posse Ground Road. Hours are Monday through Thursday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.; and Saturday and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Interested skaters must sign a waiver for a 30-minute time slot on the ice. Wait time depends on the number of skaters present, as people will be allowed to skate on a first- come, first-served basis and only 20 people are allowed on the ice at a given time.

Skate with the Sundogs

Dec. 2

During the free ice skating session in Sedona on Monday, the Arizona Sundogs Hockey team will be playing with kids, signing autographs, and enjoying the ice rink with everyone else at Posse Grounds Park, 525 Posse Ground Road. The Sundogs will be onsite from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Sandner performs for Living Room Music Series

Dec. 4

The Center for Positive Living Sedona (aka CPL Sedona), located in the Village of Oak Creek at 45 Castle Rock Road, has created a concert series that they call, The Living Room Music Series at CPL Sedona.

Next Wednesday, the Living Room at CPL Sedona presents popular Sedona pianist singer Steve Sandner. His musical jazz style has elements of big band, blues and swing, and is easy to listen to for jazz aficionados, or even for those who aren't particularly jazz fans.

Every Wednesday, the doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for tea and coffee with the concerts starting promptly at 7 p.m. Admission is $10 cash only and because seating is limited it is highly recommended to arrive early since tickets are available only at the door the night of the concerts.

SDA churches to host nationally known chef

Dec. 4-5

Mark Anthony, a nationally known chef, will be coming to the Verde Valley on Wednesday at the Cottonwood Seventh-day Adventist Church Fellowship Hall and at Camp Verde Seventh-day Adventist Church Fellowship Hall on Thursday. Anthony will be presenting a vegan cooking demonstration and a message, and then feeding everyone. Both cooking demonstrations will start at 6 p.m. and are free to the public. This program is to show our neighbors healthier ways to eat. Attendees are asked to RSVP to Vickie at (928) 649-9007.

'Take Back Your Power' in Cottonwood

Dec. 5

Cottonwood Smart Meter Awareness is sponsoring another free showing of the Internationally acclaimed and successful documentary "Take Back Your Power." This professionally produced film will inform you of the little known truths behind the Smart Meter grid to be installed in the Verde Valley beginning 2014.

Breakfast with Santa in Sedona

Dec. 7

On Saturday, enjoy a free pancake meal during Breakfast with Santa. This annual event is held at the Sedona Teen Center and includes breakfast, crafts for kids, and the chance to sit on Santa's lap. Then head to the temporary ice rink on the softball field at Posse Grounds Park, 525 Posse Ground Road. This free day of skating is sponsored by Diamond Resorts International.

Folk Music Christmas Concert

Dec. 7

Cottonwood duo William and Suellen Dicker will present a concert of traditional, folk and favorite Christmas music in an intimate setting Saturday, Dec. 7. The Dickers, known as Catcher's Hollow, have performed separately and together since 1974.

The concert will start at 6:30 p.m. in the reception hall of Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish, 700 Bill Gray Road. Donations will benefit the St. Vincent DePaul Food for the Holidays Program, which provides for the area's needy. Holiday-type refreshments will be available.

An Evening with Joe Wise

Joe Wise, a Cornville resident, recently published the book, "The Truth in Twenty." "An Evening with Joe Wise" will be a reading and book signing event, held at the Sedona Community Center, Friday at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door.

St. Joseph's Christmas Pageant

Dec. 20

St. Joseph's Catholic School in Cottonwood will be holding their fourth annual Christmas Pageant at Immaculate Conception Church on Friday at 6 p.m.

Refreshments will follow the event.
