Bell Rock Plaza Art & Craft Show

Oct. 19-20

The 17th annual Bell Rock Plaza Art and craft show season is upon us and there will be lots to see Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be paintings, sculpture, jewelry, rugs, pottery, metal art, photography, soaps and lotions, spa products, birdhouses and more.

Featured this weekend will be a local artist from Cottonwood. Brent Cox has been delighting visitors for several years with his photographs, most of which are giclees and the subject matter is landscapes. He has large pieces and also many smaller pieces which are matted prints, so there is something to fit every one's taste and pocketbook.

'Kingdom of the Spiders' at the Horn

Oct. 26

The Horn restaurant, in downtown Camp Verde, is pleased to present a Kingdom of the Spiders Reunion event on Saturday starting at 6 p.m. The cult classic, Kingdom of the Spiders was filmed in downtown Camp Verde in 1977, starring the town of Camp Verde and William Shatner. The movie follows the story of vet Rack Hansen, played by Shatner, and his attempt to save Camp Verde from being overtaken by tarantulas.

In the Halloween spirit, The Horn will present an evening of spiders and horror. The movie will continuously play throughout the night starting at 6 p.m., and there will be original memorabilia on display as well as food and drink specials. Dressed up local "spider survivors" will receive a discount for surviving and living through the horror of tarantulas over taking Camp Verde.

Family Shabbat Service at JCSVV

Oct. 18

Friday, early Family/Community Erev Shabbat services at the Jewish Community of Sedona and the Verde Valley begin at 5:30 p.m. led by Rabbi Alicia Magal, with the participation of students in our Beit Sefer Shalom religious school of the JCSVV. Eating Gluten-Free the Right Way

Sedona dietician, Karen Russell, author of Gluten Free Living, will be at The Well Red Coyote bookstore on Friday at 7 pm, to show you how eating gluten-free the right way can enhance your health & well being. She will also show you how tasty this healthful diet can be, with samples from her book.

VV Computer Club Meetings

The Verde Valley Computer Club Digital Camera Special Interest Group (SIG) meeting is Friday at 4 p.m. Free. The General Meeting is Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Free. Red Rock Arts Council dedicates 'Josie' to city

Oct. 19

The Red Rock Arts Council is proud to announce the unveiling of the life-size sculpture "Josie" at 11 a.m. at the Sedona Heritage Museum, in conjunction with the museum's 15th Anniversary Celebration. The bronze statue by well-known local artist Susan Kliewer is a companion piece to "The Storytellin' Cowboy" donated by RRAC to the City of Sedona last October.



Women's Ministry Arts & Crafts

Oct. 19

The Women's Ministry of Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Cottonwood is sponsoring an Arts & Craft Fair Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Location is 3605 E. Zalesky Road (corner of Zalesky Road & 89A at the light) in Cottonwood. Plenty of parking. Come have lunch and browse all the great handmade items that over 30 vendors will have for sale. A perfect time to do your holiday shopping and make personal selections for your home and friends. Lunch is sponsored by the youth of the church as a fund-raiser. Their menu is Pulled Pork Sandwiches, chips, cookies, popcorn, water and soda. Rain or shine.



Tribute to Stan Getz

Oct. 20

Sunday at 4 p.m., Los Angeles and Sedona saxophonist Joel Bowers presents "Autumn Leaves" a tribute concert to the legendary saxophonist Stan Getz at the Sedona Creative Life Center, 333 Schnebly Hill Road, Sedona.

Stan Getz is considered one of the all-time greatest sax players, best known for performing cool jazz, and for popularizing bossa nova, including the worldwide hit "The Girl From Ipanema."

Doors open at 3 p.m. Advance tickets available for $20 at the Sedona Worm Bookstore in the VOC, Crystal Magic in Sedona. Tickets may also be purchased for $25 at the door.



Monopoly Run Rally

Oct. 20

Verde Valley Corvette Club hosts the 11th annual Monopoly Run Rally to support Big Brothers Big Sisters with cloths, and gifts at Christmas. Open to anything with wheels. Registration is 10:30 a.m. at Larry Green Chevrolet on Sunday. Cost is $40 and there will be awards, door prizes and food. Questions call Larry McCarty at 634-5745.



Operation 'Dump the Drugs Day'

Oct. 26

Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Camp Verde Marshals Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public its seventh opportunity in three years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your medications for disposal to the Marshals Office at 646 S. First St., Camp Verde. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.



Call For Artists: The Mini Show deadline extended

Nov. 1-3

The mini show is back. White Hills Gallery is looking for mini masterpieces for the winter show.

This year, all work must be 12-by-12 inches or smaller. Any style, medium and quantity is acceptable. Some restrictions will apply. (Pieces previously in the gallery will not be accepted). There is no entry fee.

Taste of the Verde Valley

Nov. 2

The 2013 Taste of the Verde Valley and Painted Barrel Auction is Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Stargazer Pavilion at Cliff Castle Casino-Hotel. There will be food, wine, live music and lots of fun as the famous painted barrels that have dotted the Verde Valley go to the highest bidder.

Admission of $20 includes five wine or food tastings, a complimentary wine glass and a $10 casino Play Check. Visit with the Painted Barrel artists before the auction. Auctioneer Jim Scott will start the bidding at 3:30 p.m.

The majority of the proceeds from the auction will benefit the Southwest wine Center of Yavapai College. The Painted Barrel program on the Verde Valley Wine Trail is a project of the Cottonwood Chamber of Commerce. Call (928) 634-7593.



Fall Fundraiser Yard Sale for CHS

Oct. 17-18

The Cornville Historical Society will sponsor a yard sale on Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at 2101 N. Page Springs Road in Cornville. Proceeds of the sale will be used for Society activities, including placement of historic markers in the area and restoration of the Old Cornville Post Office & Store on Cornville Road. The Society is collecting donations of clean, useful, workable household items, books, furniture, decorator items, collectibles, tools, vehicle accessories and more. No clothing please! Donated items may be dropped off at the home of Veronica Moody, 2101 N. Page Springs Road, on Thursday, October 16. To drop things off sooner, please call Veronica at 634-9221 to arrange a delivery time. A receipt for donation can be provided. Country Fair for Seniors

Oct. 25

Cottonwood Village, a local senior retirement community, is putting Country back in our seniors' lives with an actual One Day Country Fair, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. the event is open to the public. Roaming through the property guests and residents will enjoy displays of quilts, animals, crafts, jewelry, entertainment, popcorn and other goodies. Please RSVP if you wish to join us for lunch and or a tour. Complementary hay rides and other activities are guaranteed to bring the child out to play in all of us.

Entertainment will include The Old Time Fiddlers, The Cottonwood Oak Creek Middle School "Thriller" Dancers, The Cottonwood Village Bell Choir; known affectionately as "The Ding-A-Ling's" and much more. Craft items will be for sale from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be served with RSVP's from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

'Art, Wine and Dine in the Verde Countryside' Gala

Oct. 18

The public, friends and supporters of Yavapai College are invited to enjoy an epicurean adventure at Yavapai College Foundation's Fourth Annual "Art, Wine & Dine in the Verde Countryside," Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the Chuck Mabery Pavilion on the College's Verde Valley Campus, 601 Black Hills Drive in Clarkdale.

Reservations are required and can be made online at www.yc.edu/artwinedine Seating is limited, and the event has sold out in each of its first three years.

Tickets are $125 per person, and sponsorships begin at $2,000. Proceeds will benefit the creation of the Southwest Wine Center at Yavapai College www.yc.edu/swc.
