Zumba classes at Yavapai College

Labor Day Reggae Festival at Cliff Castle Casino

Aug. 30-Sept. 2

Cliff Castle Casino Hotel presents the "Jamaica Me Crazy" Labor Day weekend party featuring a day of world class Reggae on Sunday with Steel Pulse, The Wailers and Tribal Seeds live in the Stargazer Pavilion. Gates open at 2 p.m., and the show starts at 3. Tickets prices are $35 for bleacher seating and $45 for lawn seating in front of the stage. Low-back lawn chairs and blankets are allowed on the lawn. No umbrellas or high back chairs please. The island-themed celebration starts Friday and runs through Monday and features casino promotions with cash, prizes and live reggae all weekend.

Benefit for David Keebler

Aug. 18

The Verde Valley Moose Lodge is hosting a benefit for David Keebler, a Vietnam veteran who recently had major surgery and needs help with medical bills. The event is Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the lodge, 1051 S. Broadway, Clarkdale.

Summer Shabbat at JCSVV

The Jewish Community of Sedona and the Verde Valley begins early summer Friday evening services at 5:30 p.m., with an Erev Shabbat service led by Rabbi Alicia Magal, followed by an Oneg of wine or grape juice and challah bread.

Yavapai-Apache Nation hosts Community Yard Sale

Aug. 24

The Yavapai-Apache Nation Culture Program will host a Community Yard Sale beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the Yavapai-Apache Cultural Resources Building located on Montezuma Castle Highway.

The sale will feature general items from the community, as well as traditional crafts.

Tree Trimming Workshop at Fort Verde

Aug. 24

Fort Verde State Historic Park presents a Tree Trimming Workshop Saturday, 2-4 p.m.

Learn about Selecting the Right Tools For The Job; The "3-Cut" Method of Pruning; Shaping for Aesthetics and Structure; Identifying Basic Tree Culture Issues; Safety Precautions To Use When Pruning Trees.

New hours at Humane Society

The Adopt for Life Center for Animals, Verde Valley's Humane Society, is trying out new hours to better serve our community. The shelter is now open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday.



Clarkdale needs Library Board member

The Town of Clarkdale is seeking an applicant to fill one vacant seat on the Library Advisory Board.

The Library Advisory Board advises the Town Council and staff regarding the general priorities of the Clark Memorial Library and suggests/promotes fund-raising ideas to finance projects in relation to the library operations.

The Board consists of five representatives. The Board currently meets on the first Thursday of every other month beginning in January.

Applications are being accepted for the term beginning Oct. 1, 2013. Clarkdale residents interested in serving should submit an application to the Town Hall Administration Building.

Applications are available at the Town Hall Administration Building, 39 N. Ninth Street, Clarkdale, or may be printed from the Town's website: http://www.clarkdale.az.gov/forms.html.

Children's Ballet classes in Camp Verde

Sept. 3

New children's ballet classes are starting Tuesday.

Pre-ballet 4 1/2 to 6 and Elementary 7-9, Intermediate class 9 thru teen and Bunhead class for pre-pointe class on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Baby Program at Camp Verde Library

Sept. 10

Camp Verde Community Library (CVCL) Children's Library invites parents, caregivers, moms-to-be and babies 0-18 months to join us for our first Baby Program at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Children's Room. Parents and babies, birth - 18 months) will enjoy songs, rhymes, music, books and more. Be ready to bounce your baby on your lap, cuddle, and enjoy a rich learning environment for your child. These parent-child engagement programs will be offered twice a month on Tuesday mornings and will last about 45 minutes to an hour. Older siblings are always welcome! Sedona Marathon launches T-shirt Design Contest

Sept. 16

The Sedona Chamber of Commerce, for the first time ever, is offering the opportunity for all ages and abilities to enter a t-shirt design for the ninth annual Sedona Marathon Event on Feb. 1, 2014.

Designs must be submitted by Sept. 16 to khall@sedonachamber.com.

Up to five design finalists will be chosen by the Sedona Marathon Event Leadership Team.

Once the finalists have been selected, Sedona Marathon Facebook fans will vote for the winner.

The chosen art design will appear on over 2,500 T-shirts given to registrants at Packet Pick-Up and on race day.

The winning art design will be featured on the website, social media outlets, and e-newsletters.

The winner will be recognized at the Award Ceremony on race day and be given a prize of $250 cash.

John & Mary Music Ministries at Rainbow Acres

Rainbow Acres' Fine Arts Series concert this month is John & Mary Music Ministries performing at 3 p.m.

WHVVD meeting at American Legion Post 93

Benefit dance for veterans

Aug. 24

A benefit dance for veterans will be held at the Jerome Elks Lodge #1361 located in Clarkdale. A pork loin dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and dancing to Happy Days starts at 7 p.m.

Shri Blues in Clarkdale Concert

Aug. 24

On Saturday, Clarkdale Community Services - Parks & Recreation is proud to present the Shri Blues Band. They will perform 7-9 p.m. at the Clarkdale Town Park gazebo located at 1001 Main Street, Clarkdale. This concert is free to the public.

The park is located in the center of the town's historic district on Main Street, between 10th and 11th Streets. There is a playground for the kids to enjoy while the adults listen and dance to the music. Vendors will be on site. There is a 50/50 raffle which all proceeds benefit the Concerts in the Park. Camp Twilight for Girl Scouts

Aug. 19-23

Girl Scouts are having Camp Twilight "The Wild West" in August. The camp will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Verde Valley Fairgrounds. Activities will include camp songs, crafts and activities related to our theme of "The Wild West." The cost is $15 for the whole week; this includes snacks.

If you have a girl that is currently in Girl Scouts or wants to be in Girl Scouts, this is the place to be. They will have activities for all ages of girls and then on Friday they will have a training session for adults to become leaders. The older girls will have classes to learn a skill such as crochet, knitting and others. If you are able to teach girls to knit or crochet they need your help, or if you are able to teach other classes please let them know.

Registration will be on Monday, Aug. 19, at the Verde Valley Fairgrounds at 5:30 p.m. Girls can attend one or all nights for the one low cost of $15.

Rotellini to speak to Democrats

Democrats of the Verde Valley (DOVV) invite you to hear Felicia Rotellini, candidate for AZ Attorney General, at their meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Randall's restaurant, 891 S. Main St., Cottonwood.

Rotellini was a previous candidate for State Attorney General, working in the Attorney General's office. She will give us an update on legal issues facing Arizonans at this time. All are welcome. The Art of Leadership

The Business Assistance Center in Cottonwood hosts a free workshop, "The Art of Leadership for Non-Managers" from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Who should attend? Individuals who are not currently formal supervisors or managers but have an interest in developing the skills necessary for becoming a successful leader in your workplace.

Quail Country Quilters meet

Aug. 22

At the Quail Country Quilters' next meeting Thursday they will be working on projects for the Boutique for our Quilt Show this fall, Oct 18 & 19. Bring sewing machines and sewing supplies or be ready to help with cutting and pressing. QCQ members remember to bring your completed quilt show entry registration forms. PBS hosts community information event on upgrade

Aug. 23

Eight, Arizona PBS will be conducting a community information event for Verde Valley area residents to learn about the expanded PBS programming available to them courtesy of the recently upgraded digital broadcast signal via newly installed rural repeater transmitters. The event, presented by General Manager Kelly McCullough and PBS support staff, will also highlight specific instructions on how to receive the new digital signal and a public Q&A.

The event will be Friday at the Cottonwood Recreation Center (Cottonwood Room), 150 S. Sixth St., Cottonwood, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

This service upgrade will bring television viewers within the expanded signal areas free over-the-air access to Eight HD (DTV 8.1) programming in full high definition video. Area residents wishing to attend should RSVP for the event by Aug. 20 by contacting Sherry at sherry@azpbs or (602) 496-5870.
