Cornfest Recap meeting

July 27

There will be a general meting on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Sweet Grace Restaurant, 37 Hollamon St., Camp Verde. The purpose of the meeting will be to recap the Cornfest, what worked, what didn't work and take comments and suggestions from the community to make next year even better. No matter how well planned an event is, there is always room for improvement. Last year we got rained out, this year the rain held off until the evening and only ruined our street dance (and no there is nothing we can do about the weather!). But we have a different idea for the dance for next year. We are determined to have a dance! So stop by and give us your comments.

Free support group for caregivers of Alzheimer's patients

Aug. 7

According to the Alzheimer's Association, one in eight older Americans suffers from Alzheimer's disease. As the disease becomes more prevalent as people live longer, their caregivers often find themselves in need of support and resources.

Among the resources offered is a free music website for seniors and caregivers called singathome.org, facilitated by music professional Richard Iacovelli.

The website features videos of Iacovelli singing many old songs with lyrics for people to follow along, as well as tips for using music in caregiving.

Each month Verde Valley Presbyterian Church hosts a free support group to address such issues. Meetings for caregivers of Alzheimer's patients are held the first Wednesday of each month from 10 to 11 a.m. (please arrive by 9:45 a.m.) Verde Valley Presbyterian Church is located at 1500 E. Hombre Drive in Cottonwood.

This support group is open to all. For information, call Barbara at (928) 634-2638 or Fran at (928) 634-6495.

Library Demolition of Marshal's Office

Sept. 5

The former Marshal's Office currently being used for the Camp Verde Library's book sales is set for demolition to make way for the new library building. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., CCCVL is using the occasion as a fund-raising opportunity to help build out the planned second floor. The first story of the new library is fully funded, but only the shell of the second story has been funded. The CCCVL hopes to raise $75,000 by the end of 2013 to support the costs of the library's second floor.

Donations range from $20 for the library to serve patrons lunch while they watch the building's annihilation, to $1,000 for the opportunity to run the excavator, under the guidance of a pro.
