COTTONWOOD - Richard and JoAnn Benson are owners of Our Place Café at 1075 S. 260 across the street from Fry’s gas station in Cottonwood. The café will specialize in breakfast and lunch every day of the week except Tuesday.
JoAnn said the café offers fresh food, and they make their own hash browns, country potatoes, chicken-fried steak and gravy. “And this fall we will start making soups,” she said.
“Everything we do is fresh and homemade,” said Richard. “Our burgers have taken off like gangbusters.”
He said the French fries are fresh. “I don’t even cut the potatoes until someone orders them,” he said.
“Besides catering to the senior citizens of the area, we also cater to large groups,” Richard explained. “I’m the only cook, and I cook my own way.”
JoAnn works the front.
Richard worked with many chefs over the years. He worked at the Clearview Café in Washington, until the couple decided they needed a dryer and warmer climate.
“We fell in love with the café and the area,” JoAnn said. “The people here have been very nice.”
Richard and JoAnn believe their business will grow over the years because they serve fresh food and no frozen or prepared foods.
“Most of our food is fresh and made from scratch,” JoAnn said.
