Start holidays early with visit to humane shelter
The Verde Valley Humane Society will offer “Honor Bricks” that will lead the path into the new adoption facility. The bricks will be etched with a person’s name or the verse of your choice. They can be in honor of births, anniversaries, in memory of or for any other reason you choose. The bricks can also be used to show your name in support of the animals that come into VVHS.

Can you believe that the holidays are right around the corner? You might already know that it’s my favorite time of the year.

Of course not everyone feels the same way and that’s ok too. Even with my love for the holidays I also have sad times.

As the holidays approach we also feel it at VVHS. So many kind people want to help the homeless animals that we have.

You ask every year about ways to help and this year more than ever we need everyone possible to pitch in and help us finish the new adoption center.

If we were in there by Christmas we would have actual heat and all of the animals would be able to live inside. Doesn’t sound like much, but it means so much to us.

Many of you have told us that you have a multitude of love in your heart and would love to adopt, but there just isn’t any room left in your homes for another cat or dog. We now have some perfect solutions for you.

Adopting a live animal isn’t the only way to help the animals. Hopefully I will be able to touch on something that you would like to do in the way of helping the animals.

Once again we are offering a way to “adopt” a shelter animal without adding another live animal to your home.

One of the best parts of these adoptions is that the animals also come with a very special, money-back guarantee.

Any animal you choose is guaranteed to be housebroken or litter box trained. What more could you ask for in a new pet?

Do you have an animal lover on your Christmas list that has everything? A “VVHS Shelter Pet” would be the perfect unique gift for that person.

These adorable little critters have been dressed in handmade outfits. You can choose from about any theme you like. How about a cowboy?

If you are adopting for a friend, a note card will be provided telling them that you thought of them in a very special way.

By adopting an animal for them not only are you helping the animals at the shelter, you found the perfect gift for your friend who has everything.

Think about how this will lessen your stress load since you won’t have to be wandering around aimlessly hoping to find that perfect gift that doesn’t exist.

A gift of a Shelter Pet adoption will also be much more personal than something like a gift card.

You did take the time to think of them. You did choose the gift and it also shows that you do care.

Would you like to just adopt in memory of someone special? You can do that too. What a wonderful way to remember an animal lover that is no longer with us.

There will always be a special Schnauzer and ornament on our tree for a special man named Buff Hopkins.

Buff left this world all too soon and will always be missed. His Schnauzer ornament is on our tree with his name on it and it just warms the heart and makes him seem closer.

If adopting a shelter pet isn’t what you’d like to do, how about purchasing an ornament for our Christmas tree?

This year we are offering tree ornaments for a $20 donation. These ornaments can also be used to honor someone in any way you choose.

These ornaments are to be placed on the tree that will be sitting in our lobby. When your donation comes in we will place an ornament on our tree written with your tribute to someone special in your life.

You will see the special ornament placed on the tree for Brian Mickelsen right after Thanksgiving.

Brian also left this world all too soon and is remembered daily just like Buff. What better way than to see their donated gifts out in the lobby?

Through your donations and the money brought in by our thrift store, the Good Buy Shoppe, at times we are able to keep the animals for many months. That’s a huge way to help us.

As long as there is space and the animal can handle being caged, he or she will wait for their new home.

We are also offering “Honor Bricks” that will lead the path into the new adoption facility.

The bricks will be etched with a person’s name or the verse of your choice. They can be in honor of births, anniversaries, in memory of or for any other reason you choose.

The bricks can also be used to show your name in support of the animals that come into VVHS.

The larger brick is offered at $90 and the smaller brick will be placed for $50. Can you imagine seeing your special brick on the pathway for so many years to come?

This year most of the money coming in will be placed in the new building fund. If we all work together we can and will get this done.

By the way I have to say this in closing “By the way sir/madam, do you have a dollar to spare for the new adoption facility?”

Everyone that has helped us on our “last mile” has been incredible. Words simply can’t convey our thanks to you.

Do you have your furry friends ready to get their pictures taken with Santa this year?

Once again pet or child pictures with Santa are being offered. The pictures will be $10 each on Saturday, Nov. 28. All monies collected will be donated to the animals at VVHS.

Santa will be at the F-Stop Restaurant on Main Street in Old Town Cottonwood from noon to 4 p.m. in hopes that we will have a record turnout. Come join the fun!

Don’t forget to shop, volunteer or donate at our Thrift Store, the Good Buy Shoppe.

Located at the corner of 89A and Sixth Street you will find an excellent selection of items to fill all your needs.

Please be responsible pet owners and spay/neuter your animals.
