Important news and some fun
The Verde Valley Humane Society
The Verde Valley Humane Society "Pet of the Week" is "Gracie." She is a tiny Doxie that delivered her babies here at VVHS. Not one Doxie looking puppy in the litter. The babies are healthy and weaned and now everyone is ready to find a new home. Gracie is a bundle of joy and she loves absolutely everyone. She seems to be housetrained since she wouldn't think of having accidents in her kennel. Her adoption fee has been discounted by $20.

Many of you have been waiting for the new date for our "Open House and Last Mile Fundraising Kick-Off" at the new VVHS Adoption Center.

Since the mornings have been slowly cooling off we've decided to make this a morning event. Too much time will pass if we wait for cool afternoons.

What are you doing on Saturday, Aug. 29, 10 a.m.? No plans? Terrific, we are inviting you to our event. Bring your friends and we'll have a great time.

We will begin your visit with a tour of the new facility. That alone is enough to get all of us excited.

Hunger pangs hit about 10 don't they? I can smell the fresh doughnuts and bagels just thinking about them. How about a nice hot cup of coffee or juice or maybe some fresh fruit?

In other words, there will be refreshments for everyone. Bring a folding chair and sit down for a bit and enjoy yourself.

I'll be there with our board of directors to show you where all of the kennels will be, how many animals we will be able to serve and all kinds of other things. Please share in our excitement!

You will be able to see that the animals are going to have much better living conditions. There will actually be heat, swamp coolers and air conditioning.

For your pleasure there will be "Get Acquainted" rooms to meet the animals. Venturing out into the rain, cold weather and heat will no longer necessary when you want to get acquainted with an animal.

Cat lovers, you will see the new area where the cats can play and mingle. This area will soon be brightly painted with trees and birds and all types of things. We plan to have a rocking chair for your comfort while you play with the kids.

You will also see where a drinking fountain and bathroom facilities for both men and women will be located. These are big accomplishments for VVHS.

Please don't come in thinking you will see fancy or upscale things because that's not what our new center is about. It's about the animals.

I could just go on and on. This new facility will save so many lives. As you can probably tell, I am overwhelmed with excitement. Come see for yourself.

Next, you've been asking about our second annual "Animal Kings and Queens of the Verde Valley" calendar and it's time to get the orders coming in so the calendars will be delivered before the holidays.

We had such a huge response last year that you are bringing it back by popular demand. We're so glad that you liked it and want it again this year.

A few things have changed this year, but not the photo entry or the calendar prices! We will extend the same pricing as last year.

Would you like your pet to be featured at the top of the page for a certain month? If that's of interest, this year you can get your pet showcased for $100.

If you would like to use the same picture as last year that will be very easy! Just get your form to me with your entry fee, date of picture previously and it's done!

For $500 you can begin the bidding for the cover of the calendar. The highest bidder gets the front cover and the second highest gets the back cover.

If you would like to bid or want to feature your pet for the month, please call the shelter at 634-7387 and ask for me, Cyndi. I will be happy to help you with your wishes.

If you have multiple pets you can put them side by side on a page. If your picture is larger because it is showing more than one animal, we can run two dates together.

Last year we had a family that took an entire week of one month. They featured all of their animals together.

Please go to our website at vvhs.net and print out the form. We will also have forms at our thrift store, The Good Buy Shoppe, located at the corner of 6th St. and 89-A or here at vvhs.

You can stop in the shelter located at 1502 W. Mingus and bring everything or you can mail it to:
