Rachel Mari Kimber to perform at Pillsbury

March 15

Rachel Mari Kimber, a singer/songwriter and recording artist originally from Wales, will perform at the Pillsbury Wine Company in Old Town Cottonwood on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. Those attending the show will be in a drawing for a free CD.

RachelShe has been likened to Jewel, Joni Mitchell, Sheryl Crow, Kate Bush and Alanis Morrisette, yet her idiosyncratic voice and quirks set her in a league of her own. During her career Rachel has had some wonderful reviews and has had featured coverage in The Observer, The Sunday Times and The Telegraph as well as many specialist music magazines.



Opening reception for Keith Schall

March 14

Join the White Hills Gallery this Friday 5-7 p.m. for the opening reception of Keith Schall's solo exhibit "Meta-paintings." The exhibit includes 25 abstract paintings that are cutting-edge with bold bright colors. Each painting moves off of the canvas in a fluid yet structured way. Schall has previously exhibited all over the southwest with gallery representation in California, New Mexico, Phoenix and Sedona. We are honored to have the chance to once again show his contemporary vision. The exhibit will be on display from March 14 through May 12.

Cattleman's Weekend in Yavapai County

March 14-15

The 23rd annual Cattleman's Weekend, featuring a ranch horse sale, two bull sales, western trade show and barbecue, is scheduled for Friday and Saturday. The event will take place at the Prescott Livestock Auction located 5-1/2 miles off Highway 89 on Perkinsville Road, on the north side of Chino Valley.

Events include the trade show, Arizona Ranch Remuda Sale, Replacement Heifer Sale, Arizona Hereford Association Bull Sale, Arizona Angus Association Bull Sale, Prescott All Breed Bull Sale and the big barbecue.

Winter Bird Walk at the Well

March 15

Join National Park Service Ranger Melinda McFarland for a bird walk at Montezuma Well on Saturday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Meet in the picnic area. McFarland will help visitors identify birds and their roles in the local environment. Free; bring water and binoculars. Call (928) 567-3322, ext. 221.



New Zumba Fitness in Camp Verde

March 17

Camp Verde Parks & Recreation is pleased to announce a new Zumba Fitness class starting March 17. This exciting class, designed for dancers 12 years and older, will be held late Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 4:30 to 5:30 in the Community Center Gym. This is in addition to the current Zumba Gold for older adults on Tuesday & Thursday mornings at 8:30 am.

Friends of Beaver Creek Library meeting

March 18

The Friends of Beaver Creek Library will have board meeting at 2:30 p.m. at the library.All members and interested parties are invited to attend. The main topic of discussion will be the "Trek for Tech" 5K run/walk event on April 13. This fundraiser will help the Friends group continue to support the computer education classes being offered at the library. Thurman to talk about pedestrian bridge

March 19

County Supervisor Tom Thurman and county Public Works Director Byron Jaspers will meet with the public at 4 p.m. in the Beaver Creek Adult Center to talk about the pedestrian bridge to be installed next to the Lake Montezuma (Wet Beaver Creek) Bridge.

This will be an opportunity to give input on some of the options on the appearance of the bridge such as the style of the truss and the finish. The engineer will provide some concepts and discuss the schedule and the costs.



All-American Mutt Show

March 22

All dogs are invited to particpate in the All American Mutt Show starting at 11 a.m. at the Moose Lodge. This is a doggie equality show. All well socialized dogs are more than welcome. Bring your owners to complete to win a "Place in Show." Kids are welcome - separate show categories just for kids.

Admission is $5 per dog. All contestants should arrive 30 minutes early. Winners will receive a prize. All proceeds go toward the Verde Valley Teen Center. Owners are responsible for dogs' actions. Contact Thomas Lennox (928) 301-8873.



Roadrunners host square dance

March 22

The Cottonwood Roadrunners Square Dance Club will be hosting a Square Dance Saturday at the Cottonwood Civic Center, 805 N. Main St., Cottonwood. Bob Jones will be calling & Ronnie Fontaine will be cueing. Pre-rounds start at 7 p.m. with alternating mainstream & plus tips from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. with two rounds in between. Chuck Cheesman at Sedona Library

March 22

Saturday, 4-5 p.m. Chuck Cheesman is passing through Sedona on his way to perform at the Phoenix Children's Museum and will make a stop at the Sedona Public Library to do his musical children's show on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Children's clinic and clothing exchange

Spirit of Joy will hold its free children's clinic and clothing exchange on Saturday. The church campus is located at 330 Scenic, Clarkdale. The scheduled time is 9 a.m.-noon. New archaeology exhibit at CV Historical Society

To help commemorate "Arizona Archaeology and Heritage Awareness Month" the Camp Verde Historical Society Museum has assembled a new Rotating Community Exhibit. Included in this exhibit are pottery sherds, projectile points, textile scraps, shell charms and bracelets, and an ancient stone axe. This is the first time this exceptional collection has been on public display. The CVHS Museum/Visitor's Center is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 435 S. Main Street in Historic Downtown Camp Verde. Historical Society members are in attendance at the Museum on Tuesdays to discuss exhibits with visitors. For further information call (928) 567-9560.



Dog Seminars begin

March 24

Have you ever wondered what your dog is saying and how to communicate back? Would you like to train your dog to come to you, no matter what? Do you want to learn how to recognize communication signals when dogs are together? Sedona Parks and Recreation offers seminars starting March 24 taught by certified professional dog trainer Starr Ladehoff, CPDT-KA.

New wine-tasting group in Camp Verde

Dennis and Cheryl Cassady, formerly of Northville, Michigan and Glendale, Ariz., would like to start a wine-tasting group in Camp Verde.

They bought a home in Camp Verde two and a half years ago and would like to meet local residents who share their interest of wine and wine/food pairings. As appreciators of wine, (that other people make), the Cassadys want the wine venue to be of a social, fun and learning nature. Sipping wine and establishing new friendships is the goal.

American Red Cross Lifeguarding Courses

April 1

Sedona Parks and Recreation, in cooperation with certified American Red Cross Instructor John Lancaster Beck, offers a Red Cross Lifeguarding course and re-certification course this spring.

This will include Lifeguard Certifications (First Aid, CPR and AED and lifeguard re-certifications).

Classes must be registered for in advance to insure that the class minimum is reached and that the class will be held.

The Professional Lifeguarding course begins Tuesday, April 1. All classes can be registered for by calling Parks and Recreation at (928) 282-7098. Information is available at www.SedonaAZ.gov/Parks under the Sports and Specialty Classes menu.



BCAC to hold annual clothing sale

April 4-5

The Beaver Creek Adult Center will hold its annual Clothing Sale on Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center is accepting clothing (no children's clothing or undergarments, please), linens, jewelry and shoes. For more information please contact the center at (928) 567-4556 Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. The Beaver Creek Adult Center is located at 4250 Zuni Way, Rimrock.



Bob Dylan Birthday Concerts

May 23-24

The ninth annual Bob Dylan Birthday Concerts will be held on Friday and Saturday, both at 7 pm, at the Old Town Center for the Arts in Cottonwood.

This year's program once again features some of the best musicians in the area, (most veterans of previous Dylan shows and some newbies, too), all performing the music of Bob Dylan.

Storytime at Peppermint Zebra

Lynn Swartz, 20-year resident of the Verde Valley, joins Peppermint Zebra in furthering its goal to educating children through interactive programming with Storytime beginning Friday at 9:30 a.m. Join Peppermint Zebra, in Hillside Sedona's courtyard, every other Friday morning, at 9:30 for a half hour of enjoyment.
