Dig into Reading at Camp Verde Library

June 4

"Dig Into Reading" is the theme of Camp Verde Community Library's exciting new Children's Summer Reading Program. Participants can hone their reading skills by digging into books, attending programs and participating in fun activities to earn prizes all through June and July.

The Summer Reading Registration and Kickoff Event is Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Camp Verde Town Gym on Hollamon Street, featuring Juggler Extraordinaire James Reid with his wild and zany juggling acts. Bahá'í Faith introductory talk

You are invited to an introductory talk on the Bahá'í Faith at the Cottonwood Public Library Wednesday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. This week they will begin to explore Baha'u'llah's position relative to Judaism and Christianity, that is: "To Israel He was neither more nor less than the incarnation of the "Everlasting Father," the "Lord of Hosts" come down "with ten thousands of saints"; to Christendom Christ returned "in the glory of the Father,"..." Shabbat at JCSVV

Shed the tensions of the week, and enter the peace of the Sabbath. Friday, Erev Shabbat services at the Jewish Community of Sedona and the Verde Valley begin at 7:30 p.m. led by Rabbi Alicia Magal. Oneg refreshments are sponsored by Rabbi Alicia and Itzhak Magal in honor of the 93rd birthday of Nika Fleissig, the Rabbi's mother. The Shabbat service is a joyous journey of prayer, song, and rabbi's teaching. All are welcome to join the community.

Movie Night at Unity of Sedona

Filmed over twenty years by acclaimed documentarian Jennifer Fox, My Reincarnation chronicles the epic story of the high Tibetan Buddhist Master, Chögyal Namkhai Norbu, and his western-born son, Yeshi.

It will be screened Thursday at 7 p.m. at Unity of Sedona, 65 Deer Trail Drive.

Memorial Day Observance in Cornville

It's an event for the entire family; old and young, man and woman, so plan to attend the American Legion Post 135 third annual Memorial Day event to be held on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Cornville Windmill Park.

The park is located at 9950 E. Cornville Road.

The public is invited and welcome to attend.

Due to traditional warm temperatures, participants are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and umbrella.

Following the program, attendees will be offered a sweet-treat donated by the American Legion Post 135 Auxiliary along with bottled cold water.

The Tarantulas in concert

May 25

The Tarantulas will be performing at Hillside Sedona, Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. in the outdoor courtyard area.

The Tarantulas play a combination of Surf, Rockability, and original music inspired by the music of the "50s and "60s.

With Randy J on guitar, Bill Juharos on drums, and Udi Cohen on bass, the trio has released four albums and performed live music throughout the country.

Our Voices Are Alive: Workshops For Women

May 26

Our Voices Are Alive continues the Workshops for Women series with "What If: An Improv Play Shop" at Studio Live on Sunday at 2 p.m.

The theater improv exercises in this playshop were designed for actors to search within themselves for the eternal truths (about their emotions, their values, and their characters) that would allow them to portray strangers with honesty.

Cost is $20.

All workshop proceeds will benefit the Verde Valley Sanctuary.

Kingdom Rock Vacation Bible School

June 3-7

Camp Verde Community Church invites all kindergarten through fourth-grade children to join in a five day, free week of rock-solid faith teachings of fun while discovering how to stand strong for God in every part of their lives. This Vacation Bible School experience is offered 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the church, 480 First St., in downtown Camp Verde.

Each child attending will share in an age-appropriate program as the entire kingdom joins together for the big-fun, powered-up opening and closing Fanfare Finale ceremony. Every child in our community is welcome and encouraged to come and join this week of fun and learning.

Free Zumba classes for Fit Kids

Fit Kids of Arizona is offering free Zumba® and Zumbatomic ® classes (specially designed classes for younger ages) at the Cottonwood space, 637 N. Main St. on Thursdays June 6, 13, 20, 27 with instructor Melissa Alleyne. All are welcome to attend both classes, however classes are divided into age groups to make the dance moves and music age appropriate. Zumbatomic ® (ages 3-9 years) will be from 5:30-6:00 and regular Zumba® (ages 9 and up) from 6:00-6:30. Classes are free of charge and parents must participate with children. Jazzy Juneteenth at Arcosanti

The 15th annual Juneteenth "Jazz Journey" Festival will be held at Arcosanti on Father's Day weekend, starting at 11 a.m. on both days. Juneteenth celebrates freedom and the Emancipation Proclamation Act of 1863.

The festival includes jazz/bebop artist Richie Cole, international jazz pianist Billy Mitchell and ensembles with Harold Land Jr. and Milt Cannon. For information on tickets and location, see or call (928) 237-7908.

Cornfest 2013 needs vendors

Verde Valley has remarkable talent. Let's show it off! Join us for the 22nd annual Cornfest, Camp Verde's community block party. Enjoy old-fashioned family fun events, with activities for all ages. In the planning stages, are live music, games for kids, kite making contest, tethered balloon rides, "corniest" joke contest, WOW Bubbles, street dance, guided "birding excursions," farmers market and anything else they can get together, along with the most popular fire roasted, buttered sweet corn in Arizona, grown right here in the Camp Verde. They will also sell uncooked corn by the dozen. Come join the fun.

Art Fair Fund-raiser

Camp Verde Promotions will be having a fund-raiser along with the Cornfest. If you have artwork on your walls that you would like to change out, now is the time.

Donate the ones you are tired of and purchase a new look at the Cornfest. Monies raised will help with expenses for the Cornfest and Fort Verde Days. Artwork will need to be in good condition for resell. Please drop off your donations at Sweet Grace Emporium, 74 W Hollamon.
