Breakfast at the VFW

Jan. 12

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7400 will be serving breakfast at 705 E Aspen St., beginning at 8:30am. For a donation of $6.00 you get eggs to order, hash browns, meat choice, toast, juice and coffee. Other menu items include pancakes or biscuits & gravy. Proceeds help us provide assistance to valley veterans and their families. Come on by with the family, enjoy a healthy meal, visit our museum of memorabilia, and contribute toward helping those who have defended your freedoms.

Benefit Spaghetti Dinner

American Legion Post 93 Ladies Auxiliary in Camp Verde is hosting a benefit spaghetti dinner on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost is $6 a plate.

Camp Style Breakfast on the Patio

Jan. 12

Cottonwood American Legion Post 25 in Cottonwood will host a “Camp Style Breakfast on the Patio” on Saturday morning from 7 to 10 a.m. (or until the food is gone). Members and their guests will be able to enjoy Dutch oven biscuits with gravy, sizzling bacon, sausage, eggs, fried potatoes, fried onions, cowboy coffee and juice. The lounge will be offering early bird drink specials to compliment the breakfast. It’s going to be a country good time. A $6 donation will be accepted. On-duty police and fire personnel that stop by will be treated to a complimentary breakfast. As always, all veterans are invited to become members and enjoy the benefits of the Cottonwood American Legion Post 25. Call (928) 634-3004 for information.

Sweet Poison, a free health forum

Please join this very informative program on sugar and artificial sweeteners. You will learn which ones are healthful and which are harmful, presented by Malter Institute, Rick Malter, Ph.D., nutrition counselor, and Rosalie Malter, M.A. life and health coach. They will lead a lecture-discussion program on sweeteners. It will be at the Healing Arts Center, 753 N. Main St., room F6, Cottonwood, on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. It is free and open to the public, but space is limited, so RSVP to Rosalie by Friday at 649-9343 or

Family Game Night

Family Game Night at the New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene is Sunday at 6 p.m. Bring your favorite game and a favorite snack to share and join in the fun and fellowship. All ages welcome. Land Preservation meeting

Jan. 14

Verde Valley Land Preservation will hold its annual meeting on Monday at 1 p.m. in the Jerome Town Hall. 2012’s accomplishments will be reviewed and officers for 2013 elected. They will discuss goals for the upcoming year and how to begin their fulfillment. The public is invited.

VFW Ladies Auxiliary Meeting

Jan. 14

The Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7400 will hold their monthly meeting at 2 p.m., Monday, at the VFW Post, 705 E Aspen St., Cottonwood. Members are encouraged to attend. They provide assistance to valley veterans and their families, and are always looking for ideas to expand thier efforts.

Arizona Tax Credit workshop

Jan. 15

Join United Christian School in Camp Verde for a 45-minute workshop about the Arizona Tax Credit Program. There will be a workshop Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and another on Jan. 23 at noon. To learn how to redirect your state tax money to Christian education.

Learn to Square Dance

Jan. 15

The Cottonwood Roadrunners will be starting Square Dance Classes on Tuesdays beginning Jan. 15 and running through May 28 at the Cottonwood Civic Center, 805 N. Main St, Cottonwood. Mainstream (Beginners) is at 6:30 p.m. and there will be Plus dancing class at 8:15 to 9:30 p.m. Angels are always appreciated. Visitors from other clubs are always welcome. The Jan. 15 Lesson is free to beginners. After that the lessons are $5 (children with an adult $2) per person per night or $68 per person to pre-pay the entire 17 weeks. Wednesday Night Supper and Bible Study

Wednesday Night Supper and Bible Study at New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene is Saturday, with supper at 5:30 p.m. and Bible study at 6:45 p.m. They are studying the book of Hebrews. Scott Mascher and Paul Friedman to address GOP

The Verde Valley Republican Women’s January meeting will feature speakers Scott Mascher, Yavapai County Sheriff, who will discuss current law enforcement issues, and Paul Friedman, Phd, who has a presentation entitled “Bridging the Political Divide: How Republicans and Democrats can dialogue about their differences.”

THE Verde Village Property Owner’s Association will be having their Spaghetti Dinner the third Friday every month featuring Chef Phat Italian (Larry Rinaldi). Cost is $7 per person, under 5 years old free, 50 cents for soft drinks. Serving starts at 5 p.m., closes at 8 p.m. All are welcome at the Clubhouse, 4855 Broken Saddle, V.V.#5.

Verde Valley Homeless Count planning meeting

Jan. 22

Verde Valley Homeless Coalition has scheduled a planning meeting on Tuesday at 10 a.m. for this year’s Homeless Winter Count, a survey of the homeless population in the Verde Valley. The meeting will be at the Loft, above Catholic Charities in Old Town Cottonwood.

Cottonwood-Oak Creek to unveil statue of teacher

Jan. 25

Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District will hold an unveiling ceremony of a bronze statue of former teacher and Tavasci Elementary School dean Stacy Kramer at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The statue was created by renowned artist John Waddell.

Coach Tom Henry Reunion

Jan. 26

Former Mingus basketball coach Tom Henry would like to reconnect and visit with his ballplayers. He is hosting a dinner at Randall’s restaurant in Cottonwood on Saturday at 4 p.m. and attending the game the same night. Coach Henry taught and coached at Mingus for more than 30 years.
