Book sale at Cottonwood Library
The Cottonwood Bookmarks/Friends of the Public Library organization is holding a half price sale during the month of October. Their book boutique area is located just inside the door from the library parking lot at 100 S. Sixth St. All books and magazines are fifty percent off. Volunteers will be stocking the area on a daily basis. Bookmarks members who bring their current membership card receive an additional discount. Basement Sale to benefit Verde Valley Presbyterian Church
Verde Valley Presbyterian Church will host an all-church Basement Sale with all proceeds to support mission projects in 2013.
This not-for-profit fund-raiser provides members of the congregation an opportunity to streamline household clutter and clean out their closets while offering gently used items to the community at bargain prices.
Among the items available are three sofa beds, two couches, functional computer work stations and swivel chairs; a 6-foot China cabinet; household items; dishes; like-new bedding supplies; patio furniture; garden items; tools; and a bookcase, plus a variety of books and clothing. The original Feeding the Flock cookbook, comprised of delicious family-tested recipes from the congregation and friends, also will be available at a special discounted price of $5. These attractive keepsakes make great gifts just in time for the holidays. Film and forum on election at Sedona Library
Arizona advocacy Network Foundation, One Arizona, and DORR co-host a film and forum at 5:30 p.m. at the Sedona Public Library, 3250 White Bear Road in West Sedona. Sam Wersinski will be showing his film, Pricele$$, which explores how money from campaign contributions influences access to tax dollars at the expense of voter priorities, such as job creation. Ham Radio Club Offers Licensing
The Verde Valley Amateur Radio Association is sponsoring an Amateur Radio License testing session at the Cottonwood Public Safety Building located at 199 S. Sixth St. in Cottonwood. The testing session begins at 9 a.m. and the cost is $15. All levels of amateur radio licensing will be available. Register for Youth Basketball
Thru Oct. 26
The City of Cottonwood presents the 20th annual Youth Basketball Program for boys and girls ages 7 to 14. Register now at the Cottonwood Recreation Center through Oct. 26. Practices begin the week of Nov. 26 and are twice a week for one hour at times and location of coaches’ choice. Games are played on Saturdays in January and February at various local gyms including the CRC. Cost is $35 for the first child and $30 for any additional siblings. Halloween Dance Party at RIOT
Sky Daddy is hosting a free Halloween Dance Party at Rendezvous in Old Town from 8 p.m. to midnight. There will be prizes for scariest costume and best dancing.
