3/19/2013 1:03:00 PM Letter: Award was very humbling
I am writing to express my sincere thanks to the Cottonwood Chamber of Commerce and to Pam Miller and the Verde Independent for honoring us with the Verde Pride Business of the Year Award.
I was somewhat aware that people were writing in about us, but was floored that we were actually chosen for such an honor. At the awards breakfast, as I sat listening to all the others who were honored in their categories, I was extremely humbled that our business was ranked among such great people who do so much for our community. I had planned some things to say upon the acceptance of our award, but as Ms. Miller read aloud what people had written in and actually said about KC’s and myself, I was overcome with emotion and gratitude for being in this place at this time.
Most people think that tae kwon do is just teaching people to fight. But really, at KC’s, we aim to build leaders in our community by using the martial arts as a vehicle for teaching life skills such as honesty, respect, friendship, discipline, and confidence. We are so passionate about what we do and get so connected to our students, that when we step back from the everyday business and hear the gracious words from parents telling us about the success stories, we feel our mission has been fulfilled and it makes our hearts soar. It’s icing on the cake that others in the community, outside of the immediate KC’s Family, also recognize this important work.
So, thanks once more. It’s just affirmation that we are on the right path and we fully expect to continue making these lessons our priority and teaching our students of all ages to lead by example in building a strong and happy community.
