Letter: Romney wins strength of character hands-down

Mr. Lockway (It boils down to character) seems to suggest that when Romney gives his own money to church it is a character flaw. The Obamas can take lavish vacations at taxpayer expense and that’s OK.

He claims Romney took a tax break (a legal one) on a house in California when poor California school teachers are being laid off as if it is not failed Liberal policies in California that are to blame but rich conservatives that are milking the system..

Obama claims that Romney lied in the debate … what’s the lie? Romney’s plan to balance the budget has never had a $5.5 trillion tax increase as Obama claims. The CBO is the one that said the only way to do it is to raise taxes by 5.5 trillion not Romney. Romney’s plan is to raise revenues by putting America back to work and producing more taxpayers. That, along with spending cuts, is Romney’s plan to get to a balanced budget It’s worth noting here Obama has no plan.

Obama says that “a different Romney showed up at the debate.” This in a way is true. The Romney the president has been portraying for the last few months is not the real Romney. The one that showed up to the debate is.

If you examine Obamas’ past, with whom he has been associated, his auto-biograghy in which he admits while still in high school, he “attended class seldomly, drank beer heavily, smoked pot frequently and did drugs enthusiastically.” It’s easy to see when it comes to strength of character, Romney wins hands down.

There is a story about the young Mr. Romney when he was a student, high school I think, perhaps you have heard it. About how another student was harassed and bullied because he was different in some way. Eventually this led to the young Mitt Romney and others held the different boy down and cut off his hair. I don't recall anyone in the Romney camp denying this story, have you?

So, assuming it's true, that alone is a deal breaker for me. That kind of character flaw will show up again and again throughout life in one way or another. Just ask anyone who has been bullied or abused in some way by someone like that.

are you maintaining that 5 months is equal to 2 years?

as far as 'facts' it's already a given that the GOP requires no facts... so maybe its all a waste.

but as far as i know math is math...

as far as the 'rest' of mr. whites rant... he has not maintained that he himself was an angel in highschool...

the whole sealing of obama's school records is a horse that's been beat... and as long as the romney followers are comfortable voting for a guy that is pro-choice (depending on when you ask) seems to endorse birth control (even though he supported the blunt amendment?) and gurantees that he will not cut taxes on the job creators (even though he is on the record for the last 2 years guaranteeing he would) ... well then more power to them. 8^) let that be the measure of their character as well .

"...if there was some way that the paper could implement some sort of basic fact checking so that institutional lies like this could be reduced... then 'what a wonderful world it could be…"

Ever lived in a country where newspapers censor 'untruths'? I'd rather let nitpicking readers do the job, in an environment where the truth can still be discerned. Thanks to your diligence, I can now rest assured that Mr. White's other claims are accurate. Or can I? Actually, the Dem majority became filibuster-proof July 9, 2009, when Al Franken was seated. Deduct a month between Kennedy's death and replacement and you get a bit more than 5 months. So, by your own desire, your comment should have been censored.

BTW, did you know that on measures that did not have bipartisan support, Scott Brown voted for Obama's stated positions 70% of the time? Assuming the rest of the Dems and Dem-leaning independents voted the same, that could be restated "often filibuster-proof Democrat majority," right?

Article comment by: mr. white seems ill informed... .

infact the mythical '2 year democratic majority' only lasted a few months...

Sen. Ted Kennedy’s (D-MA) temporary replacement wasn't sworn in until Sept. 24 of 2009, giving Democrats a filibuster-proof majority for four months and one week until Republican Scott Brown filled Kennedy’s seat after a special election.

after you deduct weekends you are down in the 72 day range...

please admit you were wrong and help stop the spread of lies. these are the facts.. and knowing that you value character and honesty it would go along way to supporting your argument if you would admit that 17 weeks is in fact not equal to 2 years.

and- if there was some way that the paper could implement some sort of basic fact checking so that institutional lies like this could be reduced... then 'what a wonderful world it could be... ohhhh yeahhhhhh'

It looks like the Obamaphiliacs have won the war of copy-n-paste by virtue of volume. However, anyone with the patience to check every item will find that many of those 'accomplishments' are the signing of bills that originated in Congress, that the real-world effect is often far different from the description, and that the country is being driven deeper into debt to fund them. Picking just one 'nice sounding' accomplishment at random: the Congressional Budget Office estimates the American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act (AKA the Hypocrisy Act) will increase budget deficits by about $134 billion over the 2010-2020 period.

That said, I noticed that a few notable achievements are missing:
103. Extended the Bush Tax Cuts
104. Extended the Patriot Act
105. Signed the National Defense Authorization Act that allows trial-free, indefinite detention of anyone, including American citizens, so long as the government calls them terrorists (after previously saying he wouldn't).

Though I suppose you could combine 104 and 105 into "Continued the Bush doctrine of trashing the Bill of Rights."

Candidate Mitt Romney represents for the wealthy elite, the culmination of the Reagan Revolution.

For those unfamiliar with it, the Reagan Revolution is that distinctly unamerican, antidemocratic movement that professes adherence to constitutional democracy while secretly promoting the corporate [fascist] state that benefits the wealthy elite.

With the candidacy of Mitt Romney, the wealthy elite have achieved the ultimate goal of the "revolution", putting one of their own in the White House to complete the Reagan Revolution.

Therefore, it shoudl surprise no one that the wealthy elite are able and willing to expend whatever it takes to achieve their goal.

This includes bribing election officials in GOP controlled states to commit election fraud.

This is nothing new, the GOP committed election fraud in 2000 in Florida for Bush II [the war criminal], and in 2004 in Ohio for Bush II [the war criminal].

If, as I suspect, the GOP commits election fraud again in 2012, this would be the trifecta for it. It would represent the third and probably final time election fraud is committed upon the American people by the wealthy elite using their vast wealth to compromise an American election.

Mitt Romney has no character. He has no faith, either. His God is money and his only commitment is to himself.

If that is deemed "character", then America has fully devolved into a decadent and decaying democracy unfit for the principles upon which it was allegedly founded fully 246 years ago.

GOP presidential candidates loudly proclaim that they are "pro-life" while simultaneously engaging in illegal and immoral wars that murder and maim countless millions of innocent people [including pregnant women] thousands of miles away in foreign countries that have never done any harm to America or the American people.

The GOP represents the ascendancy of hypocrisy in the body politic of America.

I realize that we've all done things in high school that would raise some eyebrows but I can't help but wonder how Obama was accepted to a prestigious university with that sort of debauchery as his study regiment....guess we'll never know since he has had his school records sealed....Also..it is laughable to say Obama takes responsibility for anything. He's blamed Bush for the bad economy for 4 years now after making promises to fix it. He blames congress even though he had a filla-buster proof Democratic majority the first 2 years and didn't get one single Democratic vote for his last 3 budgets. I wish people would stop calling me a racist because I think this president is socialist..I don't even know any racists....

The man is a Socialist and he is brining down the USA, and all of you people that say you ARE Americans are for this. Wow, unbelieveable! This race ISN'T about Republican, Democrat or Independent, it's about OUR FREEDOM and bringing GOD, COUNTRY AND FAMILY back to the forefront. It's so sad that nobody gets that.

Speaking of strong characters...

Don't forget: National Mall, Washington, DC, November 3rd, 2012. The Million Muppet March! (Hmm, I wonder if Mitt Romney invested in costume companies before making the Big Bird comment.)

Meanwhile, President Obama once again demonstrated his stellar diplomatic skills when he called into the 'Yo Show' and told Michael he was confident that the feuding Mariah Carey and Nikky Minaj "are going to be able to sort it out." (Gotta love a guy who cares so much about 'regular folks'.)

The only reason Willard gave such a large amount to his church and didn't take the deduction was to cover up his lies about the percentage of his income paid in taxes. The reason it took so long for him to show his returns is that he had to amend his returns to make them jive with the lies he told. Again Nathan, you attempt to deceive and distort the facts in an attempt to trick people. The problem is that this makes you an accessory.

I can't believe you would want to talk about the candidates youthful indescretions with Willards known Chicken Hawk behaviour (marching in favor of the Vietnam war, yet refusing to participate himself), not to mention his bullying a student, who was honest enough to admit he didn't want to fight in the war, by holding him down and cutting his hair. Let us not forget the great empathy he shows to animals (strapping his dog to the roof of his car). Oh yes, to quote Rodney Dangerfield, "Willard has lots of class, to bad it's all low!"
