Letter: Airport bullying? Get the facts

Re: “Do Something about Bullying at City Hall” (Verde Independent, Feb. 3, 2012)

Darold Smith says ... “As a former member of the City Council I was shocked by Dan Lueder’s behavior toward Mr. Doug Palmquist.”

Hal Cope says ... “As a current member of the Cottonwood Airport Advisory Board and being on the ‘front line’ so to speak in the Lueder/Palmquist affair, I am shocked by Mr. Smith’s comments based on newspaper reports, hearsay or third-hand information.”

As a first-hand observer of this controversy I can attest to the old adage that it takes “two to tango,” which certainly applies in this affair. I did not observe any bullying tactics by Mr. Lueder, rather what I saw as a professional business manager with over 50 years of experience in airline management was Mr. Lueder responding professionally to a management situation that required corrective action in order to preserve the unbiased integrity of the Airport Board in order for the Board to professionally and honestly give its advice and consent to the City Council.

If Mr. Smith wants to cast an unproven/unfair “bullying” cloud over our city employees I would suggest he do a professional job of investigating the facts before heating the tar and gathering the feathers.

Hal Cope

Oh my now it is going to get interesting. I wonder if Mr. Bartosh Mr. Lueder or Mr. Cope can explain why there is no mechanic on the field and hasn't been for about 2 years now. Explain why when they received 33 requests for bid that after the 33 read what this city, in its grand dilusion requiered only 3 responded. The one that was chosen only last about 6 months and left with bad feelings. Just wondering.

a "bully" tone in the reply from Mr. Delgado... perhaps some personal issues are coloring his response...?

Mr. Cope apparently has never been confronted by a "fact" that he hasn't been confused by or couldn't ignore. If he'd read the front page article, in the January 27 issue on the matter he would have read the confession by Mr. Lueder, "emotions got the best of me", additionally, City Manager Doug Bartosh admitted Mr Lueder has a problem, "Dan is a strong personality and it is something he is aware of. He was COUNSELED about that."
Mr. Cope claims to have over 50 years of "airline management" experience. REALLY! Since when is it acceptable management practice to call and leave a thinly veiled threat on someone's voice mail? Mr. Cope you should really practice what you preach and get the facts! You clearly owe Mr Darold Smith an apology.
Also, you don't serve on the "Cottonwood Airport Advisory Board" as your letter states, you serve on the Cottonwood Airport Commission! Oh that's right, accuracy has never been your strong suit. Hmmm.

Article comment by: Leuder and Bartosh saw it different

Mr. Cope is welcome to his opinion, but the Jan 26 VI article suggests where there's smoke there's fire:

"Lueder told the Verde Independent, 'Emotions got the best of me..."

"City Manager Doug Bartosh added, "Dan is a strong personality and it is something he is aware of. He was counseled about that."

thanks for the another side of the story...

once again folks are quick to anger and quick to judge... but slow to listen and consider both sides of the flipped coin.

Thanks for your volunteer service Mr. Cope.
