Letter: What a lousy way to start the day

Editor:

My Sunday morning routine is simple. I walk my dog so that we may commune with nature. Then, after he is fed, I have my breakfast and read The Bugle. Usually this is a pleasant beginning to my day. After reading “State asks: Who’s killing deer at Lake Montezuma?” I was disgusted. And if that wasn’t enough, I read “Shot dog’s owner sought in Cottonwood” and my day was totally ruined. It took me three hours to cool down enough to write this letter.

What has happened to our society that individuals believe it is acceptable to kill two young deer with a bow and arrows, leave their carcasses to rot and be discovered by passersby? And then someone thought it would be acceptable to shoot a defenseless dog and leave it to suffer and die, all by himself. I don’t know how to describe my feelings at this point, I am way beyond disgusted.

I earnestly hope these individuals are apprehended and prosecuted. At the least, they need to be fined, their hunting privileges permanently revoked, their weapons confiscated, they should be prevented from owning any weapons for the rest of their miserable lives and they need to perform community service in the Beaver Creek and Cottonwood areas.

These criminals need to be found and their photos and identities published here so their neighbors know who these perpetrators are. If the AZ Fish and Game Department and the Yavapai County Sheriff need to raise money to offer a reward for the capture of these cowards, I am willing to chip in.

I am opposed to killing for the sake of killing, which appears to be the case in using living creatures for target paractice or the shooting of the dog. However, the real outrage should be reserved for the couple killed for no apparent reason, sitting at a scenic view overlooking the area's beautiful scenery.

I , too , am appalled by the senseless killing of people and animals (wild or domestic). I believe that the individuals who commit these crimes should be punished appropriately.

However, regarding gun control ( or lack thereof): Do you honestly think that the individuals who committed these crimes and other similar ones care one bit about obtaining a legally purchased and registered weapon?
People who wish to commit violent crimes will find a way to do so ...they will steal or illegally purchase guns....they will use bow and arrows...or knives, rocks, fists...
If it becomes criminal to own a weapon, gun or otherwise, only crimanals will have weapons.

I, too, fervently hope that these criminals will be caught and prosecuted appropriately. And I fervently hope that my right to own and carry a gun is not taken from me.

Article comment by: Now remember, guns don't kill people, people kill people and kill animals.

There are too many guns, and too many trigger happy people who have guns. Explain to the family of the the couple on 89A that was murdered why there should not be gun control! We have to register cars, why not guns? Oh yah--the Constitution says the right to bear arms...another example of selective enforcement of the Constitution!
