8/12/2014 12:55:00 PM Letters: Fanning is the police chief Cottonwood needs
We have the Right Police Chief.
Jody Fanning spent his weekend grooming the softball fields for a local Softball Tournament this past weekend. His daughter, Tessa, helped, (two weeks after knee surgery), skipping along on one good leg and the other one in a full leg brace.
Jody Fanning grooming of the softball fields started on Friday and did not end until Sunday Night.
I know he was there grooming the fields before/after/and between games from before 8 a.m. and until 10 p.m., Saturday, because I was there those times, too.
I thanked Jody for his work and asked him why he gave up his weekend to help the softball tournament.
His reply was: "Jerry, it is great to help the kids, these kids are not placing graffiti on building nor doing reckless crimes. It is all about the kids."
I introduced myself to Tessa and thanked her. She had the same response when I asked her, 'Why do you do this?' Her reply was the same as her Police Chief Dad, "I do it for the kids."
Twenty-four teams from all over Arizona were here this past weekend for this tournament.
Teams from all over Arizona were treated to the best hospitality Cottonwood had to offer.
Or does this letter get an automatic "Get out of jail free" card?

@Beg to Differ. If you are not going to post your name then please do not comment on the letter. I agree with Mr. Butterbrodt, Chief Fanning is a great asset to our community in ALL areas. He is a family man, he helps in the community, and he does his job with honor and integrity.

How great that he does things for the kids. However, the way he runs his Police Department is not the same. It's a good old boy's club and they have no sense of integrity. Many of their officers are wonderful but the same cannot be said for the ones in charge. Ask the ones that work under him, you'll see. Or maybe not because they're afraid they'll be the one under attack next.
