Letter: Score one for Biden

Editor:

Even a broken clock is right twice a day!

Way back when the government was trying to decide what to do with Iraq after Saddam, Joe Biden was pushing to break the country up into three autonomous regions for the 3 dominant groups - Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds. After World War I, the British and French were responsible for re-drawing boundaries for Mid-Eastern states. Apparently, no consideration was given to ethnicity or religion. The Kurds weren't even given a passing thought. Now, it looks as if Biden's choice may come to pass by force of arms.

Maliki's Shiite dominant government has, through purging of politicians, the police and military, turned the Sunnis away from supporting his regime and they are not resisting the ISIS/ISIL invaders. The Iraqi Kurds, in North Iraq, are seeing a chance to actually secede to form their own Western-leaning state. There are over 40 million Kurds in a contiguous land area that is located in the four countries of Iraq, Syria, Iran and Turkey.

Though most Iraqi Sunnis aren't interested in trading a repressive government for a repressive radical Islamist regime, change is coming. Maybe we should just let them sort it out. Joe finally got one right!

A more accurate comparison for Biden's rightness would be a leap year calendar.

So Jim finally admits that the Bush Doctrine is a losing proposition. I guess the question is, why did it take him 14 yrs to figure it out!
