Letter: Community should be proud of and thankful for Verde Valley Medical Center

The Verde Valley should be proud of and thankful for the Verde Valley Medical Center.

We have had several opportunities to use it in the past three years we have lived in Cottonwood, and have been so impressed with the quality of care we've received. Two weeks ago my husband had a mini-stroke and again we were in the ER room. The excellent and competent technicians and doctors were so kind. By the end of the next day a mini-stroke was diagnosed, with the clot dissolved by the neurologist.

The kitchen staff even put a fresh flower on every food tray.

Article comment by: Ugliness in posts...

The indiscreet charm of the bourgeoisie.

VVMC is an exemplary hospital, but a friend who spent 5 days there and was released with an uncertain diagnosis saw a bill for around $46,000.

Overuse of such facilities by the insured ensures expensive insurance.

Article comment by: Interesting assumption you make there...

..."oh my" -- I wasn't referring to myself, at all. But of course that's what you assumed, in your drive to feel and prove yourself better-than...

I feel sad for you.

You have your Obummer care now! And If your employer insurance doesn't do the trick, then its time to look for a different job with better benefits. Tell you what, I'm a high school drop out. I had enough sence to know that I needed better health insurance for my family. Seven jobs later, I found it! The benefits are out there, just have to apply thy self to seek and ye shall find.

Article comment by: For Oh My and Pathetic Waste

Yeah, that's right: Oh MY... LOL There's more ugliness in your posts, referring to the poor, than anything I would ever say. I made it clear I'm grateful for the health care providers at VVMC, and I said I was happy for the writer's experience.

But I will NOT ignore the corporate hijacking of healthcare that operates in such a way that all human beings are not covered. I never will. I will always speak up for them. Nor will I stoop to seeing people who need to lash out as you are, toward the needy, in the horrible ways you do.

Oh my, I have to agree with Pathetic waste below. What we have here are, people that are ticks on society’s butt. They won’t find happiness, even in others good fortune. To the Swenson’s, I too am glad that the Verde Valley Medical Center is here also. My two youngest sisters we’re some of the last babies born in the hospital when it was located on Main Street, in old town Cottonwood. I have been going to the current facility since I was 7 years old. It was called Marcus J. Lawrence Hospital and was still under construction when I went there for medical needs for the first time. Today the Verde Valley Medical Center is a big part of why I still live here. It’s one of the Verde’s greatest asset to the community. Please ignore those comments below, for they know not what they do. Thank you for your time.

Article comment by: For Someone Who Works

Newsflash: Not everyone who is unemployed qualifies as justification for your obvious need to feel superior to others. Yes, some do abuse the system, but far more are genuinely disabled in many different ways, others are good people who work for companies who feel no obligation to provide health insurance, and because of the pittance they are paid cannot afford to buy it themselves.

Be careful what you say! Life can turn on a dime in ways you would never expect, and you could find yourself in the shoes you are criticizing in such a mean spirited way faster than you can imagine.

I am very glad the hospital is there for people who have insurance, for people who can qualify for AHCCCS, and I agree from comments I've heard that the medical professionals who actually do the hands-on care are excellent and caring. Thank God for them.

The corporate monopoly on the other hand? Don't get me started.

Just get on access like everyone else and it wont cost you anything. If we didn't have to pay for there sorry asses then maybe it wouldn't be so much for a band aid.

A great Facility,

Had a couple of recent health issues and had to spend three, then five days at VVMC. I have never been cared for so well, by more caring thoughtful people.

Many Thanks,

SD Morningstar

Article comment by: Also proud and thankful, but ...

... like most hospitals, they use the ridiculous "chargemaster" pricing that no bearing on realistic costs whatsoever.

This is why they can get away with charging you like $73 for a bandaid.

This is why their assets have exploded over the past decade, despite the worse economic recession in our lifetimes.

All this profit is coming out of the backs of the local people, many of whom census statistics show are poverty stricken.

Everyone knows their pricing is unrealistic, not transparent, and without reasonable basis to their costs.

What we really need here is some good old fashioned competition to force the VVMC to compete for our dollars.

Let the free market work here, and as it usually does elsewhere, better service, quality, and pricing results.

Article comment by: Wow, you must have...

...some impressive health insurance! That's all I can say. Glad for you personally that you had such a good experience, but don't think for a minute that the poor in our community would have a similar one.
