Letter: Intrusive, calculating, oppressive, ... wait, there's more

Attention "We, The American People."

In light of the vote by our U.S. Senate on Nov. 20, 2013, that changed our constitution, it should now be blatantly clear to everyone where our country is headed. We're being ruled by the most intrusive, calculating, oppressive, secretive and dangerous government, administration, and mendacious president in the 237-year history of the United States of America. All of you answer honestly this one question - what single truth has Obama spoken to all Americans from the beginning of his run for the White House to date, other than "We're only five days away from fundamentally changing the United States Of America". As is so very evident, that he has done, and continues to do. Our government no longer serves the people; the people work for, serve, and are at the mercy of the government.

To those of you who voted for, and continue to support and enable Obama, I trust you're enjoying the insightful and brilliant changes he's made, and what he has single-handedly managed to do for the economy and the image this country now projects, and to the respect our country no longer commands on the world stage. That's not to mention how he has managed to circumvent Congress, and our constitution - you know, the one he swore to uphold and protect.

Regardless of the condition of this country prior to his election, he and the rest of the Democrats were charged with pulling this country together, and putting us on the right track. Things have only gotten much worse. So, who's responsible - conservatives? I think not! However, the Right is taking the hit, and Obama keeps himself insulated (in appearance only) by making ridiculous statements like, "I wasn't made aware of that - - ", and "I found out the same time you did from the media." If either statement is true, that makes him and his entire administration liars, and totally incompetent.

The Left threw everything they had behind him to get him elected, and didn't stop at crossing the legal line. I give you the IRS debacle.

Would Obama have won re-election had it not been for all the successful efforts to curtail the Right's voting power? Liberals were positive they had an enigma in Obama, and by getting him elected they would have all union's support, and minority votes forever, enough to keep Democrats in power for many years to come.

However, they didn't suspect, likely because Obama and his staff blatantly lied to them by not telling them that he had his own agenda. So, he used them to realize his objective.

That doesn't speak well for the insightfulness of the Democrats. Based solely on Obama's track record prior to what I'm sure was what he believes to be his coronation, all the signs were there.

Remember this - Obama is not the most inept president this country has every known. He is, in fact, the most calculating we've ever had. In addition, he has little concern for his legacy, which by the way, has already been etched in stone.

Having made a catastrophic mistake by electing him, we will all have wasted 8 years of our lives, and allowed him and his totally mindless puppets to severely damage our country's future history, as well as our future legacy.

Contrary to the Left's beliefs, and of course Obama's opinion of himself, he is not God! 'We The People' no longer have anyone in Washington looking to protect our interests, and our country. They all are too busy with in-fighting, chest pounding, acting lessons and protecting their own jobs.

Observe how the Democrats are beginning to distance themselves from Obama because of the public outcry over his "Affordable (what a joke) Care Act," like rats from a sinking ship.

Whatever do you suppose could be the reason for that? Could it be a CYA move? You betch'um Red Rider, and I hope they all pay for their selfishness, and the grief their decision are causing all Americans now, and for generations to come.

Mary Jane, your leaks of logic are showing. Disdain for the depressingly-deceptive current administration does not equate to a "GOP slant."

Obama's desire for a centrally-planned economy supporting a welfare state makes him, at the very least, socialistic. And his administration's granting of taxpayer largess to corporate supporters makes him, at the very least, a crony capitalist.

And you're arguing the GOP is worse?

Frankly, I think the current GOP is so dysfunctional they can't possibly enable global corporate feudalism without the help of Democrats.

@ Nutso

Your GOP slant is showing! If you support the GOP then you certainly do not support the laissez-faire capitalism of classic liberalism, as anyone who claims to be a Libertarian should know.

Obama certainly shills for the left wing social engineering crowd, but support for the GOP is really what supports global corporate feudalism and to try and turn it around and make Republicans innocent pawns is extremely disingenuous. Calling anyone not adhering to the fascist ideology of the right wing a socialist is absurd and you know it!

We can argue whether Obama is a socialistic corporatist or a crony-capitalist socialist, but the evidence of his words and actions makes it clear he's one or the other. Obama is also an internationalist and an intellectual elitist. Which means that support for Obama is support for global corporate feudalism.

Hmmm, let's try rearranging your rant and see if it doesn't make more sense, shall we?

There are many positive things about this honest, capitalist administration, sadly they only have 3 years left. 3 YEARS of Obama's hopes and change, I hope we (America) don't survive, it's going to be a long 3 years for all the racist fools. To the one who made the "Black President" comment, Wake Up. It's always been about his skin color, I and the other rabid racists attack his honesty and respect for America and all you stand for. We are NOT a socialist country, if you support Obama then you support capitalism. It's that simple, skin color has everything to do with our hatred. When our government had it's head screwed on right millions of great Americans fought, even thought very few died we still won the Cold War. We can and if forced will fight again against our own duly-elected black, hero battling the fascist Wall St. banksters and fraudsters. The obnoxious minority is nearing it's breaking point. I can see it coming! It's almost time for the Kool-Aid! So, we'll sit here with Glenn Beck and swig our moonshine while we can. We aren't really going anywhere! (insert sound of crickets & banjos here)

WoW, it now makes complete and total sense!

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) proposed using the IRS to curtail Tea Party group funding during a speech on how to “exploit” and “weaken” the movement at the Center for American Progress on Thursday.
“It is clear that we will not pass anything legislatively as long as the House of Representatives is in Republican control, but there are many things that can be done administratively by the IRS and other government agencies—we must redouble those efforts immediately,” Schumer said.

Actually, Theodore Roosevelt wasn't involved in the Progressive Movement at all. He was a Republican with strong Populist leanings. They also advocated women's suffrage. He officially named his Bull Moose Party the Progressive Party to distance himself from some of the Populists' nuttier ideas (and probably to take some Progressivists' votes away from Wilson).

Sound familiar? Think what fun political commentators will have with the Tea Party wing of the Republican Party vs the Libertarian Party a hundred years from now.

You and your political cohorts are neither silent nor a majority. In fact, you're just the opposite! You should call yourselves the 'obnoxious minority'.

Man, you just couldn't get it any more wrong, could ya? If we take each sentence you wrote and broke it down, not one single thing you ranted about is true. NOT ONE!

Seriously, reread each line and change the meaning to the opposite of what was written and you have a first rate confession of what is wrong with the GOP. AMAZING!!!

Excuse me, Re: We The People, President Obama will be President for another 3 years. Sorry to disappoint you.

I think you will find a whole bunch of very wealthy Wall Street brokers and fund managers who would take issue that this is a Socialist administration. I saw a funny little meme on Facebook the other day, it said, "If the wealthiest 1% of Americans paid higher taxes they would be...the wealthiest 1% of Americans". Does that ring true to you too?

I'm also curious about those who fought and died in the Cold War. I served during the Cold War. I don't remember a lot of bullets or mortars. I remember a lot rhetoric and diplomacy, tough talk and saber rattling. Of course Korea and Vietnam are a different story. Is that what you meant?

Time to rethink some of your assertions. That's OK, a lot of folks around here are wrong too.

Yes, Frank, Roosevelt's 'Progressive' Party supported women's suffrage. And there were women's activist groups--particularly in Eastern cities--who opposed it on the grounds they would lose the influence they exerted on their husband's vote.

But women's suffrage was happening naturally before the 19th Amendment. Beginning with Wyoming Territory in 1869, 15 states plus the territory of Alaska had full suffrage prior to 1920, including Arizona in 1912. With the exception of Georgia, all the others had partial suffrage.

Roosevelt knew which way the political winds were blowing, and at his nominating convention he had Jane Addams give his nominating speech--a first for a woman. And yet, with the exception of California, none of the states with women's suffrage voted for Roosevelt in the general election.

Woodrow Wilson, the progressive who re-segregated government offices, did not declare his support for suffrage until 1918, after suffragists who protested outside the White House were arrested, jailed, and force fed while on a hunger strike.

Limbaugh's redefinition of 'liberal' is no more valid than the progressives'.

Progressives (such as Teddy Roosevelt), championed crazy ideas like amending the Constitution to allow women to vote and preserving America's natural beauty in the form of national parks.

And, I don't actually hear many people refer to themselves as "liberal". What I do hear a lot is entertainers like Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck and Bill O'Reilly use the label "liberal" as a derogatory term.

If you listen to Rush for 5 minutes, you will hear the word liberal, used as both a noun and as an adjective (but always as an insult), about ten times. I don't think these labels are meaningful any more.

History shows that liberal ideas gave us great things like the Declaration of Independence and it shows that conservatives were happy to remain loyal to King George and expand slavery to new territories.
