Letter: President has ruined America's reputation

Thank you Mr. Obama and Sen. Harry Reid for our partial Government shutdown, and putting the Security of the United States of America at risk.

You (Mr. Obama) refuse to negotiate the Healthcare Tax Law, however, you have set aside the implementation of your Affordable Healthcare Tax Law for large companies and the Unions.

Now you are saying that Senators, Representatives and your Cabinet members are exempt from the Affordable Healthcare Tax Law. If it is such a good Tax Law, shouldn't it be good for everyone? Why should certain people i.e., as noted above be exempt? You (Mr. Obama), by having exempting certain groups of people you have changed the Affordable Healthcare Tax Law.

Accordingly, you should submit a revised Affordable Healthcare Tax Law, that should be sent to the House of Representatives to be voted on and then be submitted to the Senate for their approval, and ratification, then be voted on, and then sent to you for your signature.

This is the way the Constitution tells how to get a bill into Law. the Supreme Court ruled that the Affordable Healthcare is a TAX LAW. It did not rule on the Healthcare aspect, just the taxation part. By refusing to negotiate with congress you look like a little boy having a temper tantrum, not like the President of the United States of America.

During your tenure in the Whitehouse you have done an amazing job of destroying our image as a Leader in foreign affairs, and as a Leader here in the United States, and you have managed to be publicly scolded by the Russian President over your Red Line statement that you made on National TV. You (Mr. Obama) have lied to the American people on a number of issues, and one event that happened on 9/11/12.

I am just waiting to see what Mr. Obama is going to lie to the American People about next, should be interesting.

Linda Walker

RE: Carl Rove "...his outburst was aimed at the tea-baggers…"
You have that right, Ms Bantam. And it worked. Mr. Bassett obviously believes neocons have something against enriching their Big Insurance donors when they obviously don't. All they wanted was a fix that would have kept the glitches from becoming evident before enough people became dependent on "Obamacare"--conveniently introduced and passed by Democrats.

Face it, Mina. Barack Obama is no FDR, but Carl Rove does a great Svengali.

Yeah, that was political theater at its finest.

This country has to resolve its love affair with Count Dracula one way or another. Either we revert to state ownership of the lives of its populous, with its bloated bureaucracy and never-ending fiats, or we resist the allure of a decision-free existence, with subsistence and palliative care and employment all provided by the everlastingly benevolent aristocracy. You can't have both universal freedom of choice and universal freedom from want. You can only be led to believe others with better judgment and greater ability want to devote their lives to doing what's best for you. And occasionally, when those leaders have a long history of keeping everyone in bacon, as in the Scandinavian kingdoms and the Ottoman Empire and China, that universal belief does keep the aristocracy relatively benevolent for quite a while. I'm not just sneering at you Progressives' dream of universal peace and prosperity. Done whole-hoggers, a welfare state satisfies some people's deepest desires better than an everyone-does-his-own-thing state.

This nation doesn't have ANY history of bringing home the bacon and dividing it equitably, however. We have no born-to-serve traditions. No state church to condemn those who fail their duty to God, crown, and fellow-man. Most of all, we don't have an homogenous population whose needs and pleasures are modest, predictable, and easy to deliver. And there's nowhere left on earth for people of modest means to run from the oppression of either a tyrant or an antithetical majority.

In the last presidential election, although I am four-square against the kind of government the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act represents, I was praying the American people would have the sense to reject Mitt The Facilitator Romney--to instead continue to beef up the opposition in the House of Representatives. Give the currently Progressive United States Executive Branch 3 years to iron the kinks out as it sees fit, but don't let it divert funds from government programs the states and individuals have come to depend upon or force the states into unsustainable debt.

God is good. The voters did just that. Now there's a fighting chance to keep our dear Progressives from fixing the wrong thing. Again. To focus them on the real enemy of civil rights. Again. Maybe even to chase Dracula from our windows for a hundred years or more.

Carl Rove is far more politically astute than I am, and far less given to off-the-cuff tantrums. His outburst was aimed at the tea-baggers, not the program formally known as Hillarycare, Chafee's folly, and Romneycare.

As always, Billinda Bantam

Let's think for a minute about what exactly it takes to ruin a reputation. Any reputation. A product or company, a celebrity or politician or in this case, a country. Sometimes he who's reputation is ruined is responsible for it by bad behavior like Anthony Weiner. Sometimes ruination is a result of bad choices like Eddie Murphy deciding to do Norbert. But, what we are talking about here is a deliberate and well orchestrated not to mention well funded campaign to ruin the Presidency of Barrack Obama. From the very start of his first term it has been the stated goal of republicans and their more reactionary arm the Tea Party to bring him down. Apparently if that means the reputation of the country goes with him, so be it.

Here is one example of just how well I think this strategy will work out for the republicans. Remember last November when all the right wing pundits and politicians and even the candidates themselves were so absolutely certain that Mitt Romney would be elected President? He wasn't. Remember that? Mr. Romney lost by both the electoral vote count and the popular vote count. Carl Rove was beside himself as were many any others. Rather than accept that they had deluded themselves, the republicans redoubled their efforts to de legitimize the President's second term. It didn't work before, it won't work this time either. The Office of the President, the President himself and the United States Of America will prevail and the only reputations ruined will be those of the key players in the Tea Party. They should act accordingly by apologizing to the American people and all those they have hurt and disappointed then pass the budget and raise the debt ceiling, then quietly resign and live out there lives in obscurity working for non-profit charities.

Threatening Social Security payments if the republicans don't fall in line should take care of
the next election.

Clearly not.

Mary Jane is only crazy when the word 'homosexual' is mentioned.

Certifiably so.

M J is crazy only when he is breathing.

Subtle differences.

Article comment by: I read that maybe 80

tea party house members (they do not deserve a capital "H") are responsible for blocking Boehner (and thus, all of the government).

Roughly, that is 18% of the house membership representing only 13.5% of the US population.

Gentlemen-- not you, M J, and ladies, can you say "Minority Rule?"

Yes, sure, blame it on Obama.

Blind fools.

So different yet in some ways so the same.

Perhaps the GOP is the same way... personal liberty and freedom! But not for a woman's uterus or lgbtq marriage.

Shut down the govt! but not the parts that make us look bad for shutting it down!

etc... and so on...

Papa Joe Biden? You gotta be kidding. Obama's last line of defense is that he's better than Biden. Even Peter from Yavapai has that straight. Now if only the GOP could see why this is true.

Just 2 words-

Please... Proceed...

You and your tea loving compatriots are the ones most likely to ensure your own demise.

Unfortunately you are choosing to try and sink the whole ship rather than just your own life boat.

So as the pendulum swings from the right back to the left...you have only yourselves to blame.

@ Blind Liberals! & all T-Party fools

You ordered the lemon pudding, you ate the lemon pudding, now you have to pay for the lemon pudding! There isn't an issue to debate or negotiate. You pay for what you took. Very simple!

The Republicans have shown their true colors on this issue and when they have to back down and have their noses rubbed in the dirt, the American public will not forget what a bunch of posturing, self-important egomaniacs they have become

Say good-bye to your advantages in 2014 and most of all say hello to the next Democrat President!!

Don't you narcissistic fools ever want the White House again?

You'll never get there preaching against healthcare for the masses, hatred for Latinos, welfare for Wall St. Banksters. Not to mention making war on the middle class!

Your relevance is disappearing like smoke in the wind...
