Letter: Obama an exremely lucky 'Enigma of the Year'

Time magazine's selecting B.H. Obama as Man of the Year is a travesty.

He is a guy who has been coddled and pampered all of his life. Childhood in Kenya and Hawaii. Free ride to college and law school. Then on to community gadfly in Chicago where he became minority poster boy for that corrupt political machine that put him in the state senate where he was so indolent and uninspiring that his best performance was to vote "present."

After two years of mediocrity and non-accomplishment in the U.S. Senate, the anti-Hillary wing of the democratic party nominated him to trounce lackluster John McCain.

Now he has prevailed over Mitt Romney and his comment that 47 percent of their voters are useless parasites.

He is not Man of the Year. He is an extremely lucky "Enigma of the Year."

A response to Audrey Parker

It's not really to hard to see why so many people are disgusted by the GOP greeks who bear gifts to their favorite corporate sycophants at the expense of the middle class, nor is it any wonder why the majority despise a political party (GOP) that is bent on the destruction of the middle class solely to enrich themselves. If anyone is without clothes it is because the lapdogs of big business have monopolized everything available to lavish themselves in the robes of robber-baron royalty.

Don't forget the masses who cannot abide what they saw for 8 yrs. and chose to replace that fascist ideology with something democratic.

These people of the middle class that you and your party despise and taunt with your class-warfare policies have watched the last 4 yrs. and liked the way the economy and the country have improved, and in no way will they ever go back to a fascist party whose goal it is to destroy Social Security and Medicare and force American workers to work for wages competitive with chinese children working in sweatshops

Why do so many think that the country is split between sycophant idolatory of the (Greek) bearing gifts of free goodies to the 49%, and the rest consumed with hatred for the emperor who doesn't realize that he isn't wearing any clothes? Somewhere in between these masses are those of us who watch and wait, didn't like what we saw for 4 years and don't like what's shaping up for another 4 years.

torn between glee over the overt revulsion and mental/physical illness this seems to be causing those who despise the president to their cores...

and amazement that people are so bitter and angry.

once more you folks are your own worst enemies... you are doing more to promote the president and the democratic party than you could ever imagine... every name you call us...every rant you post... just drives the wedge between the sane/reasonable majority and yourselves.

looks in the mirror guys... are these words and actions you want your kids to know you by?

but by all means... please... proceed... 8^)

Article comment by: Disappointed in Obama

So many people are disappointed in Obama. Let's remember that close to half the country did not vote for him.

I was hoping at his inaugural he would try to reach out to everyone else besides liberals. Try to unify the country.

Conservatives and moderates want more of a middle of the road president. We want runaway government spending controlled. We want businesses to hire, we want to work and get ahead in our lives. We don't want food stamps and more government handouts.

Instead we got a liberal manifesto at the inaugural. This president prioritizes social issues liberals love ahead of everything else.

No mention of how he will create jobs, lift the struggling middle class, close the deficits, rein in irresponsible spending, reduce taxes.

If you're a liberal, you're thrilled anyway because he's pushing your left wing agenda ahead of everything else.

But for the rest of the country, we're left wondering who's our president? We get the feeling he could care less about us.

Relax folks.

Enigma: something hard to understand or explain an inscrutable or mysterious person

Rick, you describe Obama as "lucky,".

My old football coach told me after I had fumbled and the ball bounced exactly into my hands: "I'd rather be lucky than good."

'enigma'... hmm... what is it about that word that seems convenient...

i am sure folks will sort it out... and the one who wrote the letter will be indignant at the very thought of it...

but par for the course it seems...

Awwwww, the Tea-Bagging bigot doesn't like the fact that the President of the United States of America has been named Man of the Year. They would have given the award to Donald Trump, Karl Rove or maybe even Willard Romney but, by definition, it CANNOT be given to LOSERS!

Hey, I know!! 'you people' can spend the next four years making excuses for why the American public won't buy your BS. Then after that you can spend another four years whining and complaining, and then another four years and another...

The Republicans have brought this loser mentality on themselves by selling their souls (and their votes) to the fascist's lobbyists!

To No Matter How Hard You Whine

Really?? That is your best response?? All Rick was stating were facts and his opinions. Yet what I typically see from Obama supporters is to name call and insult those with different opinions. FIght differences with facts not name calling. Who are you calling a 2 year old?? Look in the mirror. People like you physically and mentally make me sick.

60 some odd million out of over 300 million is far from a majority and only 60% of people eligible to vote did so. A gallup poll out yesterday showed public confidence in our government is at it's lowest point since Jimmy Carter was voted out. We can only hope someone like Ronald Reagan will be here in 4 years to pull us out of the mess Obama is creating. If there is anything left.
