Commentary: Business of recycling follows parallel path of trash collection
The exodus of Sedona Recycles from Cottonwood shows the parallel paths recycling and garbage collection have taken over the past 30 years.

Letter: The last thing we need is more federal oversight of public land
This idea of a Sedona Red Rocks National Monument is horrible! Most of our natural areas are already regulated by some government entity. At least the Forest Service allows us access. The LAST thing this area needs is another governmental intrusion in the name of a park or monument.

Letter: There is a reason we have immigration laws
I do not agree with Cokie and Steven Roberts article in regard to Mr. Donald Trump, and their view that anyone who disagrees with their view, are political haters, and that those who disagree are always wrong.

Understanding city budget picture
Recently, there has been some misinformation being disseminated throughout the community about the recent city financings.

Letter: Article presents minority opinion that vaccines are health-inducing
Just because we grew up knowing that being vaccinated was perfectly normal, does that mean that parents should be forced to hand away the rights of the health of their children to medics and strangers?

Commentary: Sportsmen and sportswomen keep Arizona cash registers humming
Hunting and angling are more than just outdoor sports in Arizona. Their economic impact is downright staggering.

Letter: We have the right to know what's in our food
In the next week, the U.S. House of Representatives will consider HR 1599, the so-called "Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act."  This Act is known to concerned Americans as the DARK (Deny Americans the Right to Know) Act.  Unfortunately for consumers, HR 1599 is more about keeping us in the dark about what is in our food than truth in labeling.

EDITORIAL: Ultimate benefits of Riverfront Park treatment plant cannot be denied
We don't live in a perfect world.

And yes, it is troubling that the mounting costs for Cottonwood's wastewater reclamation plant at Riverfront Park will deplete most of the city's Capital Improvement Fund.

Editorial: Don't let temporary Jerome taxes become permanent
Jerome business owners would be advised to buy a 2016 calendar now and put a big red mark on June 1 of next year.

Letter:Not convinced of the merits of a new federal monument in the Red Rocks
I am not convinced that including Sedona, the Village of Oak Creek and the Red Rocks of Sedona into a federal monument will accomplish what Keep Sedona Beautiful hopes for.

Letter: For better or for worse
So now we wait. The agreement - not treaty - for better or for worse, is signed. Why did it take so long? Because the Iranians understand their enemy better than we understand ours. They knew that for more than a decade our country has not used its vast power as a negotiating tool, that as long as they show up to talk, however inconsequential, they could safely carry on any activity without consequence.

Editorial: Revenge porn hardly qualifies as free speech
The American Civil Liberties Union's successful bid to strike down Arizona's new "revenge porn" law solves a problem that doesn't exist.

Letter: Litter an invitation to criminals
There are several free advertisement papers and phone books that are literally thrown in every driveway in our community on a regular basis.

Letter: Anyone could become homeless
There's something we need to talk about here in the Verde Valley: homelessness.

I'm not talking about the less fortunate who spend their time on various corners looking for help from our community. I'm talking about the families, who go to work every day; who send their kids to our community schools and spend their hard earned money at our community businesses.

Editorial: Proposed national monument will only add to Valley's appeal
The burgeoning groundswell of support for a Sedona Verde Valley Red Rock National Monument could not come at a more opportune time.

Letter: Great opportunity for the community to help out children
It's a tremendous way to put a smile on a child's face as they head out to school this year ... ready to go!

Letter: A Modern-Day Good Samaritan
In a world filled with bad news, this was a nice reminder that there is a lot of good as well.

Commentary: Making the Verde Valley a better place to live
"Verde campus instructors are awesome!"

This simple declarative posted by a Yavapai College student on the YC Facebook page harkens back to a quote from legendary basketball coach John Wooden: "Young people need models, not critics."

Letter: Moon trip lacks perspective
The Republican candidates for president and the GOP leadership have finally returned from their trip to the moon. The trip explains that, until recently, they have held their silence as the Donald (Trump) spews forth his usual vitriolic rhetoric.

The Transportation Research Board found that severe injuries were reduced by a whopping 76 percent after a roundabout was installed at a four-way intersection.

USA Today says "Greeks Face Only Bad Choices."

Editorial: New Arizona laws offer job security for those who enforce them
The mantra of the Arizona criminal justice system is "we're overburdened."

Jails are filled to capacity. It can take years for the judiciary to conclude a criminal case. Caseloads for prosecutors and public defenders alike beg for plea bargains just to ease their caseload.

Letter: Just how safe are roundabouts?
The many recent comments to the editor regarding the subject of "roundabouts" inspires me to add my two cents into this discourse.

Letter: VVPOA is not responsible for enforcing state law
After reading the letter from Rita Dirks, I would like to respond. Most of her complaints are about the roads. The roads are not self-maintained, they are the property of the county and therefore are the county's responsibility and not the VVPOA.

Letter: Recall effort conveys 'instability' to prospective neighbors, businesses
We are writing to your readers to endorse our maligned Town Council members Jessie Jones, Bruce George and Robin Whatley. It is our belief that these people have worked very hard to make Camp Verde a great community in which to live.
