Letter: Same old accusations from the Right

The political Right has a technique it is fond of using. Their technique turns any unfavorable issue or condition created by the Republicans around and places the blame on President Obama or other Democrats.

A good example of this technique was in a recent Letter to the Editor from Mr. Don Sherrill.

In 677 bloviated words he brought up all the tired old accusations which could have been solved had the Republicans actually taken some of the Democrats' ideas. For example, he accuses the Obama election workers of 'curtailing the Right's voting power.' Really? Did not the conservative Supreme Court uphold the grossly misnamed Citizens United, which allows large corporations to spend unlimited dollars for their favorite (right wing) candidates? How many conservative states have emasculated the Voting Rights Act, resulting in unfairly long wait times for minorities to vote?

Mr. Sherrill also faults the President for our slow growth economy. The economy is growing slowly. But why? How could it improve? The stock market is soaring, even as the Feds have announced they are going to rein in the stimulus. But how much better could it be? How about if the economy killing sequester was eliminated, a draconian condition imposed because no one thought Congress would actually be irresponsible enough let it pass? How about if the Republican controlled House would offer up a bill to rebuild our infrastructure; our bridges, roads, public buildings? This would put hundreds of thousands of Americans to work.

The Republicans keep talking about the need to create more jobs. From where I sit, they are doing just the opposite. The rest of Mr. Sherrill's post was the same mud-slinging that offers no facts or proof. And 677 words. I thought Jim Barber was verbose.

Fascist Friends,

I write today to bolster your self esteem. Do not fret about O'Reilly's disastrous display of fanatic, frenetic, fascist lying rhetoric. We will persevere! When the FOX preacher laments about healthcare for the masses or whines about the public seeing through the GOP's Benghazi Delusion, do not look at the audience behind you smirking and laughing at your extreme political blindness. For you are truly the anointed and blessed! Let no one convince you that living in a bunker, afraid of your own shadow, hoarding bullets & bullion isn't a good thing. Hallelujah Beck!

Let not the laughter and derision of the masses shake your faith when lamenting about the minimum wage lest ye lose the faith. Praise FOX!

Down with family, liberty, work, and other outdated "values"... PROFITS, Profits, profits... it's all that really matters! Glory be to Wall St....

If hunger prevails among the masses, just quote our patron Saint, Marie..."Let them eat cake!" Can I get some "Hail Maries"!

It won't be long now before all middle class peasants will be licking the boots of Wall St. Bansters... Let the good times roll!!!!!!!!!!

It's starting to look like you don't care for the current president, his admin, or his policies.

Rather than being so constructive in your criticism could you spice it up a little?

Maybe add in some squeels or howls?

Wait... oh never mind... please proceed. you may be the best hope the country has at staying on the same path you obviously enjoy so fervently.

Really... please don't stop, we beg of you... you are one of the best examples for why all the numbers you proclaim are evidence that we are headed in the correct direction. Can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs right?

How's that hopey changey goin' for ya?
Comrade President Barry's State of the Union so far:

Ninety-two million Americans are out of the workforce

Five-plus million Americans who had health insurance have now lost that health insurance

Fifty million Americans now live below the poverty level

A record forty seven million Americans are on Food Stamps

The national debt has increased by $6 trillion under Obama, and now stands at a record $17 trillion

Energy costs soar while we experience record breaking global warming ... ah ... climate change

Meanwhile .... back at the Working People's glorious Capitol building...
Our Comrade President's wife wears $450 shoes with sparkly pink toe caps while appearing for a photo-op at a homeless shelter

Are you shovel ready Comrade?
Down with capitalism!!!
We demand guaranteed equality of results!!!!

If you changed all the rights to lefts and republicans to democrats you're letter would still have the same meaning. Those who still blindly follow the Great Leader will be sad footnotes in history.

I think you may have missed the jist with this one. When a preacher preaches fire and brimstone and the abominations of the outside world, he is focused on the congregation. Iffen you don't subscribe to dancing with rattlesnakes, no amount of encouragement will entice you to walk on the dark side!

Most people think of God and religion as forces for good, others, like the GOPper you referred to, think of God as a force for their vengeance and hatred. You have to actually believe that the snake won't bite you and iffen you waver, you're likely to be bitten. Which of course really means, if you're bitten it's your fault for not adhering to the stated dogma strongly enough! With these fanatics, truth is always subjective. Meaning that if it benefits them, it's the truth. Science and facts hold little sway in their minds.

I truly understand the instinctive urge to call them out for their lies and point out all that contradicts what they say, but in the end it is futile to try and show them the light. What can you really do when someone refuses to see?

Article comment by: More confusion from the left

Truly unfortunate that progressives like Mr. Burke fail to see any connection between the economy and the failed regulatory, fiscal, and economic policies of the Obama Democrats.

The sequester? Proposed by the Obama White House. Careful what you wish for.

Slow economy? Massive unemployment? Gee, ya think this might have just a little to do with the policies of the dominant political party over the past 5 years? Including the biggest job killer of them all, Obamacare?

Shovel ready stimulus projects? Been there, done that. In Obama's first two years, when Democrats controlled congress and the White House, and rammed through everything they wanted. Obamacare, Dodd-Frank, quantitative easing.

Didn't work then, we're paying the price now.

Somehow these liberals never seem to make the connection that government cannot create jobs and cannot create wealth.

All government can do is tax those who do earn and redistribute it, and that's something the Democrats are very good at doing. That's all Obama can do because he knows nothing about the real world economy, has never created even one single job, and like so many liberals, is clueless about free market capitalism and the noble role of profit in society.

Obama no doubt thinks (but would never admit), probably like Mr. Burke and all the other left wingers that post here, that profit is evil.

C'mon liberals, tell us how evil you think profit is. Same as greed, right?

Tell us how capitalism and democracy and freedom (this is what conservatives believe in) ruins society and must be stamped out in favor of the State controlling and regulating everything. Like Obamacare. We know you think that.

The uncontested absurdities of today are the accepted slogans of tomorrow. They come to be accepted by degrees, by precedent, by implication, by erosion, by default, by dint of constant pressure on one side and constant retreat on the other - until the day when they are suddenly declared to be the country's official ideology. ~ Ayn Rand
