Letter: MUHSD and COCSD appreciate community support for schools

On behalf of the youth of our community, we both want to extend a huge "thank you" to the voters of the local communities who supported budget override continuations for both Cottonwood-Oak Creek and Mingus Union High School districts. Passage of these overrides means many important programs and opportunities for students in both districts will continue.

We will continue to increase collaboration between the districts, including expansion of shared services and shared positions, to ensure that we maximize the benefit of each tax dollar received to best serve the students in our schools. We are very fortunate to live and work in communities that support and value education.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Ms. Barbara U'Ren, Superintendent

Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District

Dr. Paul Tighe, Superintendent

Mingus Union High School District

But the real story here is that we are working
with "reported numbers" not witnessed nor
counted by voters of the respective districts.

This is a clear violation of voters "Full Voting

Thanks and Good Luck,

P. S.: The correct blank rate for Mingus count
is 7.4%, (7505 cast ballots and 550 blank)

Reply to Frank Henry:

The Clarkdale-Jerome crowd isn't the only oddity.

When I checked the Yavapai elections overview today, 7505 Mingus ballots had been received.
Of these, 6953 had been verified and counted.
That left 552 ballots either not yet verified, invalidated for some other reason, marked yes and no, or blank (as you say 550 of the Mingus-only precinct are reported to be).

However, at the same moment in time, 6508 C-OCSD ballots had been received.
Of these, 5566 had been verified and counted.
That left 942 ballots either not yet verified, invalidated for some other reason, marked yes and no, or blank as far as the optical-counting was concerned.

Compare this with Sedona, which had only 5 ballots kicked out of 5437 received, or Chino Valley (3 out of 5328), or Humboldt (6 out of 11487). Or look at C-JSD's 2011 override final results: of 959 ballots received, all were verified and counted.

The Mingus override count needs investigation, but even 552 no votes wouldn't change the outcome except for the percentage of yes to no votes. It would still pass by a healthy 699 votes.

The C-OCSD override, on the other hand: the current spread between yes and no is 956 votes. 942 additional no votes would mean this override passed by 14 votes.

Given all the other irregularities of mail-only elections, if I were Secretary of State, I'd investigate more than some 940 irregular ballots.

Article comment by: Passage of these overrides .... NOT YET.

The unofficial numbers indicate that of the 997
ballots cast in the Mingus-only district that 550
ballots were "blank". This matter is being
investigated to verify if over 55% of the ballots
were un-marked???!!!

Lets hope the election office in Prescott has
info on this matter.
